John, thank you for this information. After reading it, it appears that my camera Canon Rebel T3i or 600D is compatible. I did not see LR5 on the list of compatible Adobe applications. Any further thoughts?
Exactly what error message is Lightroom giving you when you try to import the raw images from your 600D?
If it claims that the files cannot be read, it really means that the files cannot be written. Normally you get this message when your user is not allowed by the OS to write to the folder that you have specified as the output of the import process. Check your permissions on that folder.
Hal, thank you.
Below is the message when I try to download from my EOS card plugged into my MacBook Pro's camera card slot on the side of the computer.
"The files appear to be unsupported or damaged." followed by a number representing the number of files it would not recognize.
I get the same message when I try to import any CR2 files from my computer hard drive into LR5.

The T3i ( or 600D) has been supported since Lightroom 3.4.1.
So all future versions of Lightroom including version 4 & 5 support it too.
This still does not address the issue. What would you suggest?
I'd suggest posting a link to one of those CR2 files here for others to have a crack at.
I recommend copy.com unless you have another preference.
Hmm - it's taking me to my copy.com account, instead of your file - somethin' not quite right (and I think it's the link you posted - format looks wrong to me..).
Will this link take you to a file for download at copy.com?
I think the copy.com download links always have the same format:
I could be wrong.
Dunno if this is good news or bad, but I had no trouble importing it natively, nor converting to DNG (in Lightroom, and with Adobe DNG Converter v8.5 - didn't try 8.6).
Are you using Lr5.4 or 5.6?
When I click on Lightroom at the top and About Adobe Lightroom
Version 1.4.1 and Camera Raw 4.4.1
When I went to download Lightroom the loge was Lr Lightroom 5
Now the question is why it download a much earlier version and says it is up to date.
Well now I have to fess up to being on the Duh side.
Yes, I was opening an old version in my applications folder.
No wonder nothing seemed to work right.
To all that helped and thought about helping, Thank You.
Sounds like you're running a really old version of Lightroom.
Consider un-installing it, and downloading and installing the latest version. If all goes well, it should say "About .. 5.6" in the help menu.
