    Double-Sided Name Badges ...

    ImageLink

How do I import a multi-page PDF document in InDesign and then Duplicate each page in order to output double-sided SAME image ?

That won’t work. Simply printing the same thing on two sides of the paper will not give you the same imprint on both sides.

          Try it. You’ll see.

Hey Bob, let me know if you get this email?

            Thanks,

So the client gives us a 400 page PDF file and each page is variable with a unique Name and a unique Barcode on it for a set of 400 name badges.

What we need do now is to turn it into a 800 page document where every 2 pages is the same name and barcode.

Then send it to the rip and have it print 15up on a 13x19 sheet size and end up with 400 double sided badges.

Any thoughts on how to autotmatically duplicate each of the 400 pages in order?

                Let me know.

                Thanks

                JIM

It would be a lot simple to set up to print two adjacent copies on one side of the sheet, then cut and fold.

Yeah but the final product is Laminated, 10mil, flush cut and a slot hole to hang from a neckband

                    Good brainstorming though.

We don't know what you don't tell us...;)

I think you need a pro-level imposition tool for this one, not ID.

There's a sample script that comes with ID, that places multi-page PDFs. It would be fairly easy to adjust the example to place the pages twice. So the ApplScript version would be (run the script and choose the PDF with pages to place):

                        ===================================

set myPDF to choose file "Select a PDF file to place"

                        tell application "Adobe InDesign CS6"

                            set myDocument to make document

my myPlacePDF(myDocument, page 1 of myDocument, myPDF)

                        end tell

--places each page of the pdf on a new page and duplicates

                        on myPlacePDF(myDocument, myPage, myPDF)

                            tell application "Adobe InDesign CS6"

                                set myDone to false

set PDF crop of PDF place preferences to crop media

                                set myCounter to 1

That would be fine for 1-up, but the OP wants to print 15-up back to back the same content....

Do any of you know if Quite Imposing is able to handle this direct from the PDF?

The rip software will handle the imposition so we will send it to the rip as an 800page file, 1up on the 13x19.

If the RIP can impose it, just impose the PDF. You don't need ID for this...

I did something similar in Quite Imposing years ago with flash cards that had front & back info and also needed to be set multiple up per sheet.

Couldn't tell the exact procedure, but I remember splitting the master file into an even pages only file and an odd pages only file..

Also the reading direction reversed from front to back so the correct back of the card printed on the correct front.

Doing multiple ups of these are possible but its been years ago . . . .

I guess we were using indesign to make the double pages.

I wonder if we could just do that in acrobat?

You do it with your imposition module, just as you would impose any other PDF into a booklet or whathaveyou.

Quite Imposing is a relatively inexpensive add-on imposition module for Acrobat, but you don't need it if you already have imposition software, and it sounds like you do. Who handles prepress in your company?
