Disabling Flash Player Update Window

We are having an ongoing issue where users are continuing to be notified that an update for Flash is available even though we have disabled it. We are following the guidelines outlined in the admin guide and using an mms.cfg file to configure automatic background updates and to suppress the notification. The following settings are set in the config file:

SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1

AutoUpdateDisable=0

We have placed the mms.cfg file in the c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash and the c:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash folders. Currently my system and the other systems having the issue are showing version 14.0.0.145 installed. The screenshot below is what the users are receiving.

Are we missing something? Is there no way to disable this? Thanks for any help!

Hi,

You're current configuration has your systems configured for notification updates AND background updates, so updates will occur via either method.

SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1 = background updates enabled

AutoUpdateDisable=0 = notification updates enabled.

Unless you are hosting the background update resources locally, there is no way to disable notification updates and have only backround updates enabled.  Information on hosting background update resources locally is available in chapter 3 of the http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/flashplayer/pdfs/flash_player_1....

OK, so there is no way to disable notifications and have aromatic updates short of hosting our own update server in house? That seems kinda crazy... Is there a reference to the return codes written to the verbose log file?

Also, is there a way to force a check/install of the update? The scheduled task does not seem to do anything... Even with Verbose logging set, it just dumps a bunch of codes that seem to repeat and do not tell me anything. I also can not replicate the popup telling me there is an update needed. Is there a place, maybe in the registry or a config file to reset a check bit? Does it only check once a day regardless of when the task runs?
