This is more of a CSS general question, googling will give you a variety of answers and examples based on your exact needs. Methods from the image being alpha transparent, to using opacity (but will effect the content to) etc. Depends on what you are trying to achieve, I suggest just whacking that in a google search and I am sure you will find exactly what your after.
