Recognizes DVD Burner but Ejects Disk on Build

    EckleySP Community Member

Suddenly Encore will not burn my project to a disk.  I am running Win 7 (Encore CS6) and this particular HP drive has worked in the past with Encore, but not today.  When I Refresh it finds it but won't display the write speeds for this drive.  When I select Build, it ejects the disk and says to put media in it and try again.  Course, that's the start of a loop.

      Anyone knows what's going on?

Encore is unreliable as a burner for many users. Since CS4 or CS5, I have not even attempted to burn a disk with it; I use ImgBurn. So as much as I agree that everything should work, I lose no sleep over Encore having issues with burning.

BUT that is assuming you can build to an image. For troubleshooting, build to an image to see if that works.

Then you can decide whether you have other issues, or can use the workaround of burning with ImgBurn.

I created an image but it is too large for a standard DVD.  While you might thing that has something to do with the problem, I don't believe it does.  I've actually burned this project to a DVD within Encore in the past - several times.   And, other projects suddenly have the same issue.

            More strangeness from Encore.

Successful build to image does point to burner issues. And those can occur for a number of reasons, including a bad batch of media.

How did you try to burn the image to disk? What program?

ImgBurn.  And, I use 'professional' media.  It seems to not even check the media.  Normally, when you hit the Refresh Button, you get a drop down of the write speeds you want to use (based on the hardware).  Encore refreshes, and recognizes both burners on the system, but will not give me the correct burn speeds for the drives I have.

ImgBurn will prompt you if you are trying to burn the iso file to disk rather than making a DVD. So we have to assume that, if Encore accepts the burn process, it would prompt for project too big for disk.

My guess is that something is interfering with the burner/disk recognition process, and may not be an Encore issue as such. (third party drivers or the like).

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Encore and I will never get that time wasted back.  I may go back to a restore point and see if that helps.  I know I can use ImgBurn, but I am one of those that gets a lot done in short order (do to efficiencies that people generally ignore or know nothing about).  So having to add another step or two (or three) just to get a DVD burned doesn't sit well with my temperament.  I'll come back and update when I have more to share.

It is a personal style matter.

For me, the efficiency issue that convinced me ImgBurn was the way to go was running multiple instances of ImgBurn so I could burn multiple disks at the same time from a) the same machine and b) from a different machine that did not have Encore.

Originally, it seemed a total no brainer to burn multiple disks from the image  using a third party app, because I did not realize that Encore would do that. But even though I now know how to do that, Encore had and continues to have its stability issues, so I'd still be reluctant to use it for that purpose.

My update.   Restore did not result in any changes.  That's hours I will never get back.

To be honest, I've not had stability issues with Encore.

I will check one other thing before I give up and that is, I installed an LG DVD burner (internal) and it may be that Encore hasn't cooperated since that install.  I don't recall, but it's worth removing the DVD altogether (I disabled it via Device Manager).

                        Will get back.

Getting back. . .   No happiness.  Very frustrated.

                          Frustrating for sure.

Disabling may not be sufficient for Encore to see only the one drive that is left. But I have never understood all the problems that contributed to conflicts and Encore not seeing drives.

When I have used 2 drives on an Encore system a) one was external and b) I was using ImgBurn.
