My layers, gradients, and saves are going crazy.

    Steelbred

My Photoshop is going through numerous problems.

I cannot use the Transparency in my gradient tool. I have tried to fix this everyway I know how but no matter what the colors are or the opacity is, it will not go transparent.

It continues to get worse because when I have blurred layers I get a block that forms around the selection after it has blurred.

I use my smudge tool and end up with pixelated blocks surrounding the places I used the tool

When I save the file it deletes certain layers and will not allow me to fix them. I cannot refill with Gradient tool or Fill. The layer that I uses either one for is never displayed.

It is just a horrible mess and I have no idea what to do would somebody please help me?

I honestly can't make it any clearer than this.

One just happened today. I saved a psd file last night, this morning when I opened it, one of the layers I was working on, was blank. On that layer I had filled it, used the burn, dodge, smudge, sharpen, and filter effects. I had merged it with other layers that I had done no more or less to. Opacity was at100%. There were no masks, layer styles, adjustment layers or anything else interacting with it.

That's as clear as it gets, I WAS WORKING ON IT LAST NIGHT, SAVED THE FILE, OPENED IT TODAY, AND THE LAYER WAS BLANK. This has happened numerous times on separate files. The only connection that I can make is that these layers that go blank are all layers near the bottom of the list, These layers have been affected by smudge, blur, Filter effects, fill or gradient. I also make this connection because those tool/effects are also giving me trouble

When I use these tools/effects/adjustments the total area incompletely filled in pixelated blocks or the surrounding area I have touched gets these same pixelated blocks affecting the area. THEY DO NOT WORK OR  DON'T COMPLETE MY ORDER.

The last problem is my gradient tool. when I set a gradient to go from 100% opacity to transparent IT WILL NOT GO TRANSPARENT.

That is as clear, concise, and descriptive as it gets. I've checked the settings, my preferences, options, I've checked it all, nothing I've checked has fixed any of these problems. Does anyone have any clue what this problem is?

Without information about your system, no one, absolutely no one can help you.

Please read reply #1 all over again, and read the like provided therein in its entirety and carefully.

We have no clue what platform you are on, Mac or Win, the exact version of your OS and of Photoshop, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, whether you have already tried deleting your Photoshop preferences and let Photoshop create fresh new ones, nothing.  Not a single detail about your hardware, whether you are working over a network (which is not supported), etc..

Honestly, with what you've given us, we can´t help you at all.
