Go to Help - Updates and bring all the software, including ACR, up to the current revision. Not sure if there is any effect from being on XP, sooner or later you will run into difficulties if you don't upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.
Thanks Richard. I made sure that I was totally up to date via help-updates on all programs (cs6 & bridge) and it still doesn't work. Any other thoughts? I remember vaguely that I had this problem before and had to download a new file. I tried looking on Adobe site and the suggestion is the raw conversion 8.3. Downloaded that (said it was for windows xp, serv. pack 3) and I can see the file but when I click on that it comes up as a .pf file and I"m not sure where to go from here ... or if I have now messed up everything really well.
Yes, XP is on the way out of my life as I need a new computer so this maybe the push that I need. But in the meantime, I really need to process some images.
Any other thoughts?
No, its been too long since I worked with XP. Maybe somebody else can help. Perhaps you could go the DNG Converter route until you get setup with a new system.
I think it’s been too long and there is no updater that runs on XP, anymore, and Adobe’s update process isn’t smart enough to provide the most recent updater that does work on XP instead of just denying all updates as they seem to do.
I think the way to go, now, is to do a manual update to ACR 8.3 using the instructions, here:
This Help article was written with rolling back 8.4 to 8.3 but the same instructions should work to update 7.x to 8.3.
