newbe to epub authoring....itunes book proofer won't accept encrypted files...cant find them and which fonts can one use without this problem?
The book proofer will not accept embedded fonts which are encrypted, even though the encryption is per the IDPF spec.
InDesign will not embed unencrypted fonts out of respect for the font vendor's rights.
There is no workaround to this which I know of, at least in terms of previewing what the fonts will look like. If you choose not to embed fonts then the proofer should work, but then you won't be able to see what the fonts look like, right?
What the InDesign epub team does is simply side-load the epub via dropbox or email. Both of these routes let you choose "open with..." and iBooks will be one of the choices.
Apple knows about this. I suggest you remind them that as a customer you're not happy with this behavior and request that they revisit their decision.
Thank you Douglas for taking the time to help and I will let Apple know that I'm not happy about their requirement.
