    Creating a forum

    Soc4me3 Level 1
      Hi,
I have been searching for a site with a tutorial about how to
create a forum through dreamweaver and php. I have only found
tutorials that use interAKT which I don't want to use. Does anyone
know of a tutorial that makes a forum without interAKT. Thanks
      Chris

Your best bet is probably to install a PHP forum script; it would be a whole
lot of work to start from scratch and there's no real reason to. Here are
            some:

            http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Discussion_Boards/index.html

..but you could do your own searches of course.

Like Patty said, just do a search and you'll find a bunch. This one's free
                though, since you asked:

I'd add one thing free is good, I like free it's great unless you need good
                  support.
As an analogy you could use notepad to write your web site and no doubt
create wonderful html pages or you could use dreamweaver pay the money and
                  get support.

                  Worth thinking about

Thank you Kelley Rao. You were very helpful. Now one more thing. I know everyonehas told me don't try to reinvent the wheel but if I wanted to make a forum from scratch without using other people's programs is there a tutorial out there. I have looked but come up with nothing.

IF you're asking that question I get the feeling you have no idea just
how much is involved.... just use one of the many quality products that
are already out there - they're typically fully customizable

I think there may be a couple of tutorials over at www.communitymx.com for
                        different server models.
You will probably have to sign up for the subscription though ( I don't
believe those particular tutorials are free articles).
