1. Re: Web app Templates by BC
Liam Dilley Sep 15, 2014 4:39 AM (in response to JohnSSmith)I do not use the BC templates so not sure what you mean by style based web app items fully but you will never see a variation in web apps in plans. A web app is a web app and will always be in the top plan unfortunately.

2. Re: Web app Templates by BC
JohnSSmith Sep 16, 2014 3:47 AM (in response to Liam Dilley)Many of the BC Templates have Web Apps like this
Accordion - Not exactly sure what this is, but appears to be some type of layout.
Blog Layout - Again, although this appears to be a new Blob entry area, so possibly this is not style related.
Home 3 Column Boxes - Style related layout.
Home Page Hero - Style related layout for sliding images across the home page.
Tabs - Style related layout.
I don't disagree with what you are saying Liam, but when Web apps are being used for Style in BC templates, then people that may not have your skills get caught. Web Apps obviously offer valid business functionality for managing different things like Staff, which I agree that the Client should pay for.
I feel that the templates offered, should at least have a warning, that they will only work under the higher plans.

3. Re: Web app Templates by BC
Liam Dilley Sep 16, 2014 6:18 AM (in response to JohnSSmith)Accordion - List of items you output on a page - Click title show rest of contents. Common web feature. Not style related.
Blog Layout - Not style related, correct.
Home3 Column boxes - you would normally call this home page features, many sites show 3 or so featured items - not a style thing either.
Home Page Hero - Hero's are big feature images, can be static or sliding images - Not style.
Same with tabs.
I think what your view of style is not right. Style is CSS, features to style a website. That is why the CSS is called Stylesheets - Cascading Stylesheets = CSS. - Style. Web apps are not for style, they are for function which come with layouts to layout that functionality.

4. Re: Web app Templates by BC
JohnSSmith Sep 16, 2014 4:28 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)While I agree that styling is CSS, the web apps themselves have been pre-styled, and the web apps are then used to change the "look". I mean they provide an "easy" way to use images or information in a certain pre-made style. Whether the images or information is static or not does not come into it.
I suppose my real gripe is the fact that so many of the templates come with theses web apps, they are useless if a client goes with a lower plan.
I have rewritten the code now to get around the problem and asked BC if they could include a warning, for other or future partners.

5. Re: Web app Templates by BC
Liam Dilley Sep 16, 2014 5:43 PM (in response to JohnSSmith)The concept of a pre-made template is that it is style John. That is the thing with those and while you can always tell a site comes from a template, because they differ very little. That is why you have "Frameworks" which are a different concept with lacking style.
A web app is not for style purpose and never conceived to be that. And in terms of templates, they are there to create features of that template theme. As part of that and being a template the layouts will have been done but not only that the CSS to style them to match the template theme as well.
Web apps are 100% not there for "look"
It is management, an extension for custom features based around the premise of the CMS. If you go by your logic page editing, product editing etc would all be "style" features
All the BC documentation etc does state about web apps, sounds like it could be clearer, but any any bigger feature if you downgrade will have issues.
As a note though you now have a new problem. In the system, the site you are working on - the web apps are still there. You just can not access them. View your sitemap.xml - You will notice they will still be there.
You have to get BC to remove the web apps completely for you.
