1. Re: Cutting long recording into smaller pieces
ryclark Sep 16, 2014 4:08 AM (in response to beatfux)There are a couple of ways of doing this.
1) Select a song by dragging the left cursor over it from the beginning to the end. The selected area will turn white. Then either right click on the selected area or go to the File menu and select Save Selection. browse to where you want to save it and give it a name. Save.
2) Place Markers at the start of each song plus one at the very end. Go to the Marker list and select the first marker, then shift click on the last marker to select all markers in the list. Merge the Marker Regions by selecting the Merge icon (fourth from left at bottom of marker pane). Then Batch Process (fifth icon from left) to Save all the Marker Regions as separate files.

beatfux Sep 17, 2014 11:59 AM (in response to ryclark)thanks ryclark for that answer. you're right, this would work in edit mode with only one single track.
i forgot to mention that this was a multitrack recording, so i have it looking like this:
notice the little gaps, that's where i cut out the jibberjabber between songs.
unfortunately it's not possible to use your solution with multiple tracks. kind of like a batch process would be needed, where every part of every track within the selection would be saved as a separate file.
is there any way of doing this?
having every single section of every single song opened in edit mode and then saved sounds like a big pile of work :/thanks,

3. Re: Cutting long recording into smaller pieces
ryclark Sep 17, 2014 2:57 PM (in response to beatfux)Aah yes, you have a bit of a problem there! You presumably want to keep all the tracks separate at this stage to mix down each individual song later? One of the best ways might be to save out each song as a separate Multitrack session file. But I can't think of a quick and easy way to do that at the moment.

4. Re: Cutting long recording into smaller pieces
beatfux Sep 18, 2014 12:59 AM (in response to ryclark)yes, that's what i wanted to do, having all the songs in separate audio files. i wouldn't want all the instruments to sound the same on each song seems like this is going to get bigger that i thought
if there's no further answer in this thread i'll mark your first response as correct, because in some kind of way it is correct, if only for a different case.

5. Re: Cutting long recording into smaller pieces
ryclark Sep 18, 2014 4:51 AM (in response to beatfux)The way that I would do it would be to group all the clips for a song together by selecting them all vertically. This can be done by dragging the Move Tool cursor over them, drawing a marquee through the wanted clips. Then use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+G to group them. Then all the clips for each song will be locked together (and a different colour). Save this as your master session.
Next you can delete all but the wanted song group. To help you you can use the Edit/Select menu tools Clips to Start of Session and Clips to End of Session. As you are doing a lot of selecting it might be worth setting up keyboard shortcuts for these commands. Slide the remaining group to the left to the start of the timeline and do a session Save As with the song name as the title. Repeat for all songs.
