InDesign Doc with bad links crashes on launch/open

Trying to open a doc with known image links that need to be updated but can't get that far - the warning to fix the links pops up but as soon as the doc opens it instantly crashes - pastebin of the crash report can be found here:

First, go to Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/ (this is a HIDDEN folder) and empty the recovery folder, then launch ID without attempting to open a file (it may not launch because that crash looks to me like it might be caused by insufficient privileges for the prefs folders, in which case there won't be a recovery folder to empty).

If ID will launch, go to InDesign > Preferences > File Handling and uncheck the boxes to check and find links before opening the file.
