CS6 InDesign crash on Windows 8

CS6 InDesign WILL crash on Windows 8 when the TMP variable points to something else than %LOCALAPPDATA%\Temp. If your TMP points to for instance a RAMDRIVE for obvious reasons on a SSD system you are out of luck.

There is a work-around that temporarily sets the TMP variable to it's standard, starts ID, and than sets TMP back again. To use it do the following steps:

      1. Create a text file InDesign.CMD with the following content

      SET TMPTMP=%TMP%

      SET TMP=%LOCALAPPDATA%\TEMP

      start "ID" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6\InDesign.exe" %1 %2 %3

      SET TMP=%TMPTMP%

      1. Store this file someplace for instance in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6
      2. Associate files .indd with this batchfile by right clicking an .indd file, select Open with..., Choose default program, Scroll down to "Look for another app on the PC" and select the .CMD file you just saved.

Now you can still keep your TMP as you like and work-around this bug in  InDesign
