Ronald Romano Sep 19, 2014 2:30 PM (in response to Ronald Romano)The code above was applied to the page via a cut from YouTube of the embded code and then pasted into my folio. Code was not entered into the web content overlay. Only box checked was allow user interaction.

4. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
Bob Bringhurst Sep 20, 2014 7:02 AM (in response to Ronald Romano)Set the overlay to Auto Play so that users don't have to tap twice to play the video. Add a poster image to prevent the black Flash message from appearing.
The html iframe bug was fixed recently, so youtube clips should work fine on iOS 8 devices.

5. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
Ronald Romano Sep 20, 2014 1:26 PM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)A few questions...
1. What if I don't want auto play? In the past a clear box placed over an image worked just fine.
2. What about past released folios? I have YouTube links in all of them and I just checked my most recent released issue and the YouTube links no longer work as intended. Do I need to go back and fix and/or update each one now?the app as a v32
3. Or when I submit the app as v32 as opposed to a v31...that will clear things up?
thanks.

6. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
Ronald Romano Sep 20, 2014 2:39 PM (in response to Ronald Romano)My current released folio Youtube web content overlay works as intended via the desktop browser. Fly and Light Tackle Angler 2.2: Tilting at Bones on Your Own—Mostly

But not inside the app on the iPad tablet (looking at already released folio). No user controls and I can pinch and zoom the image inside the frame. -
7. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
jlockman Sep 21, 2014 7:02 AM (in response to Ronald Romano)Why are you referencing the videos on YouTube? I assume (perhaps wrongly) that you own the content, and that you have access to the source files. Is the issue that you don't want to have a giant folio due to video?
Autoplay won't autostart the video. It will autostart the Overlay, which will then invoke the poster frame from YouTube. Apple requires that video that's streamed in a web overlay have a "play me" button, so you force your reader to tap twice to start any video that's in YouTube unless you autostart the Web Overlay. The desktop Viewer and the iPad Viewer have different rules when it comes to video, and they have different capabilities when it comes to Web Content overlays. I always recommend that designers test on the desktop as a first pass, but that you can't rely on it to prove how your content will behave on a device. The only way to know what your content will do on a device is to test it on a device.
Another issue is that you are using Object>Insert HTML..., which you invoke when you paste the code from YouTube. While really interesting in theory, it introduces some unintended consequences as a result of the Webkit Engine that InDesign used to generate its preview. You see the Flash Player warning because you pasted the embed code. If you saved your code to a text file and saved it as video.html in its own folder, then linked to it as a normal Web Content overlay, you would not see the Flash warning. If you absolutely must continue to use the paste method, then you should select the overlay and set its transparency to 0 in order to hide the poster frame that InDesign generates. You can then put any poster on top of the overlay (such as your Tap to Play iconography (which I like very much, by the way...) and it will disappear when the reader activates the video.
Know that on devices, DPS Viewers rely on the OS for rendering Web content. As a result, if the OS changes (as it did this week in the case of iOS), your Web Viewers may change their behaviors as well.

8. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
Ronald Romano Sep 21, 2014 9:43 AM (in response to jlockman)Hi J,
Yes you are correct. The content I do own I try to do a split between YouTube and imbed on the videos to keep size down.In regards to Autoplay etc....
Looks like I misunderstood the other thread that was addressing this issue. I thought you cut the whole code from YouTube and paste it into ID. Normally I personally proof everything via my iPad via Content Viewer. I like to "feel" the layout as well at the same time. I am currently starting a new folio.
Everything was working prior to iOS8. (that includes iOS6 & 7) using the "old" method of pasting in a portion of code into the web content overly and selecting allow user interaction.
So to sum this all up. Looks like I need to go back and update all my folios that have YouTube links so they will work in iOS 8. Lucky for me (according to the analytics) it seems most of my iPad readers are still using IOS 7 and have yet to make the switch.I'll go try it out and probably end up embedding more videos.
Thanks for the help and the compliment on the icon.

9. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
Bob Bringhurst Sep 21, 2014 12:48 PM (in response to Ronald Romano)Have you built a v32 development app recently and tested your folios with YouTube clips? The most recent hot fix may have addressed the issue you're seeing.

10. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
Ronald Romano Sep 21, 2014 1:00 PM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Not yet. I just started my latest folio. My App is a v31 (app sent to App store late August/early September).
I can make folio v32 and give it a shot. I assume the most recent version of Content Viewer is a v32.
I will be updating the app to a v32 before folio completion. (maybe sooner if it addresses the issue)
Please correct me if my assumptions on how to proceed are wrong. Thx.

11. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
Neil Enns - Adobe Sep 21, 2014 8:13 PM (in response to Ronald Romano)There is no need to change the target viewer version on the folio. Just update your app and see if your previous folios work.

12. Re: iOS 8 YouTube bug. Question.
FLTAron Sep 25, 2014 10:11 PM (in response to Neil Enns - Adobe)Still not working. I am not sure what I am doing wrong if anything. The closest I could get it to work like it used to work was making the poster image an actual button and linking to the YouTube video that way. No really what I want. Want the reader to use and interact stop & start etc with the YouTube video within the poster frame and then expand video if they so chose. I'd like to keep them on the page and viewing within the layout.
I created a single page v32 iPad document to test on my iPad using Adobe Content Viewer. Then I applied the directions above I was given.
Granted I could of missed something but I tried all sorts of variations and none of it worked. I remembered to add in the http: (I also did it without as well)
When I linked to a video.html text document of the code (full code and short code) the text document would show up in the folio on ACV. I tried the cut and paste method with auto play and knocked the poster frame back to 0 transparency and that didn't work either. Frustrating. It was so easy and painless before the iOS8 update when embedding YouTube vids. Not sure what I am doing wrong here.o file for poops & giggles and
I tried a Vimeo video file for poops and giggles. It worked correct but the problem I have with Vimeo videos is they never seem to scale to the size I input when using custom size input on Vimeo. They always scale large and never scale to size even when choosing scale content to fit within the Web Content overlay box. That problem for me with Vimeo vids has been consistent. Thus I went the YouTube route because it was "problem free" until now.
Am I the only one having issues?
