are you able to change the "default programs" in the start menu?
Thanks for responding.
Strangely I can link photoshop to Tiffs, but not to ARWs. PS doesn't show as a possible program on default or linking choices.Much the same with "open with", PS doesn't show as a choice.
After uninstalling the Acrobat program in programs, the default program switched from acrobat to Windows photo viewer, again with no ability to link to PS either on "open with' or on the "Start" default programs
Even if Photoshop is not shown as a choice, one can click on Browse and go directly to the exeecuteable(photoshop.exe in the Adobe folder under Program Files) and select it as the default program.
Unfortunately how ever many times I browse and click the PS exe, PS does not show up in the choices in 'open a program with' either 'above or below the line'. I have just heard of someone whose Karaoke files(I don't know which type) where also hijacked by Acrobat yesterday. She also cannot choose the one program she needs to open them in the same manner as I described above.
But thanks for responding Richard.
try to uninstall Acrobat Reader?
Don't want to be insulting, but just to make sure, once you have selected photoshop.exe you also have to click on Open at the bottom.
You can also click on the start button and choose Default Programs to see what is associated with each file type, if you want to change you end up with the same dialog as above.
I also googled on ..... "windows 7" hijacked file associations ....., lots of stuff to consider. Use the quotes to restrict to Windows 7 information, may also want to search only in the last year or so.
Many thanks Richard.
Your Google was better than mine! I have been trying some of the 'easier' suggestions without luck. I am sure the answer lies in going into the registry and editing it. I haven't quite plucked up the courage yet, but will soon.
I maybe off the mark but...
Right click on the file
Select open with
Select more programs/choose default
Navigate (browse) to PS location under 'programs'
Highlight PS Excecutable
make sure 'use as default' box is checked
Unless you have some type of other problems this should do it and PS will reappear in the 'default program' list.
Thanks for joining in, unfortunately this particularly snide bit of hijacking resists all 'normal' corrective attempts, and will allow only execs that cannot open a RAW. However once I have opened the PS program I can select and open a RAW, so all is not lost (yet)!
