    HELP: Alignment of Layer with Scroll Text

    kc41082
      Can somebody please help me? I would appreciate it more than you know. I am not all that good at writing code -- in fact, I know very little about it. However, I love to design. Therefore, I periodically build websites for small businesses pro bono.

      I built a site in Dreaamweaver using table cells. In one of my table cells, I would like scrolling text. However, I do not want the text to fill up the entire cell (margins on each side of text so it does not extend to edges of table cell). To do this, I inserted a layer and set it on top of the table cell, where I want the text. I told it to scroll when the text overflows. However, although it looks fine on screen, the text moves over to the left when I load it in my browser. I cannot figure it out!!! I want to change it (maybe) RELATIVE (instead of absolute) to my table cell, but can't get that to work. I have seen the code you have suggested to people , but don't understand where to insert the code into my website.

      Will somebody check it out for me and offer me a suggestion? It can't be too difficult to fix. Please visit kaycee.mutpup.com and click on the link provided. It will take you to the temporary site I have posted.

      THANK YOU!

          You'll have to add a scrolling div and redo the background graphic in that
          cell.

            Change this -

            <div id="Layer1" style="position:absolute; width:296px;

            to this -

            <div id="Layer1" style="position:relative; width:296px;

            and reposition the div.

              Thank you. I changed the code to what you suggested. However, what do you mean by "reposition the div?" I cannot move the layer once I changed it to relative. When I changed it to relative, my scroll test box moved all the way down off the screen. I am so sorry I cannot figure this out on my own. It shouldn't be this complicated. Help?

                Edit the positioning for it in the stylesheet - don't try to use the
                mouse-drag method.

                > It shouldn't be this complicated.

                It's only complicated when you don't have the underlying concepts
                understood. Working with positioned elements is NOT easy, and definitely is
                not something that will come to you while you sleep! 8)

                  KC41082,

                  You currently have:

                  <div id="Layer1" style="position:absolute; width:296px; height:279px; left:
                  443px; top: 152px; overflow: auto; z-index: 1;" align="left">

                  Change to something like this (where left:22 px; top: 11px is
                  positioning the layer.)

                  <div id="Layer1" style="overflow: auto; position: relative; width: 296px;
                  height: 279px; left: 22px; top: 11px; z-index: 1;">

                  But...I believe you are going to discover other problems when you do this.

                    Thank you.

                    You are right. This just causes the alignment to shift yet again. I am not using CSS for this small site. Could that be the problem? All I want is for this text to appear scrolling in the area it is suppose to. Since this is not working, is their any other way for me to fix this?

                      Hey,

                      I just clicked on the link you provided me with. How did you do that? It appears correct on my screen now? It looks perfect, it just needs to come down a little bit more so it isn't so close to the about us header.Now, how can I fix that on my computer? This looks awesome.

                        Okay,

                        So I entered the code you suggested. And it fixed the alignment of the text. Yippee. But, for some reason, there is an extra space above the left photo and below the left photo now. Any suggestions! :)
