1. Re: How to post a published Captivate project
Russ_E Sep 23, 2014 1:15 PM (in response to kadeinfo123)It is usually that simple. Your IT folk are just worried about hogging bandwidth and the course getting stuck in the "pipe".
You could argue that cp projects (and swf files in general) can progressively download (i.e. start playing before they are fully downloaded).
However, I suspect that your project is suffering from "bloat".
What I mean is you may have more assets stuffed into it than you really need or what you have inserted may need to be optimized before importing.
For example, you may have images or photos that are a lot higher resolution than you really need for web viewing.
You may have a single image imported multiple times when it could easily be shared/reused.
You may have audio or video files that are needlessly large (i.e. could be compressed).
Hope that helps a little.

painttrainer Sep 23, 2014 1:49 PM (in response to kadeinfo123)The other thing that can really make the files large is of course embedding video. I have gotten into the practice with captivate 8 of embedding video as a youtube interaction and uploading the video as an unlisted you tube video. It has cut my files down tremendously, and it can even let the users book mark the video for reference later if they are signed into their you tube accout.
Don't know if video is an issue, but thought I'd share the suggestion.
Also you might try scorm cloud for deployment, I have used that in the past to test things to rule out problems my LMS has given me.

windscorpion Sep 24, 2014 3:22 AM (in response to kadeinfo123)If you go into the Library and select (and then delete) unused items this may cut the size if you have some unused items

Lilybiri Sep 24, 2014 3:36 AM (in response to windscorpion)Cleaning up the Library has no effect whatsoever on the published file, it will only reduce the file size of the cptx-file. I'm always wondering why users think this will help? Sorry, @windscorpion, but what is not used in the file cannot make it grow: unused items from the library, hidden slides are two examples. I'm only cleaning up the Library when I'm sure not to want those objects anymore even in the future.

7. Re: How to post a published Captivate project
kadeinfo123 Sep 24, 2014 5:24 AM (in response to painttrainer)This is a great suggestion that I will have to play with. I do use embedded videos and they do contribute to the size of this project. But really, is the size of this project too large to post on a website? And what other methods of posting are available? Zip file for download? In my last company, we distributed via a CD and size was not an issue.

kadeinfo123 Sep 24, 2014 5:26 AM (in response to Lilybiri)I think there is definitely a misconception about this. I too thought that cleaning the library would reduce the size of the published project, not just the CPTX file. Getting back to my original question, is there another way to post projects ? Is the size of this project too large to post on a website? And what other methods of posting are available? Zip file for download? In my last company, we distributed via a CD and size was not an issue.

9. Re: How to post a published Captivate project
Russ_E Sep 24, 2014 5:38 AM (in response to kadeinfo123)It's not too large to post. More of an issue with how much a viewer of your project needs to download to their individual browser in order to use it.
A single file of that size can be considered to be somewhat large. That means that anyone who takes your course, is going to download the whole thing, even if they only do the first page.
In general, I try to keep my main file to a modest size, and then externalize assets so they are only downloaded if/when needed.
To clarify, everything is still posted, but only downloaded when the course needs it.
This way, the overall size of the course is less of an issue.
