1. Re: Can you set a project wide time limit?
Captiv8r Sep 23, 2014 12:16 PM (in response to jessedavis0919)Hi there
There is nothing inside Captivate that will do it. But as I understand it, this is something you are able to configure within a Learning Management System (LMS).
Cheers... Rick

Lilybiri Sep 23, 2014 12:22 PM (in response to jessedavis0919)What do you want to happen when time limit is reached? Although I totally agree with Rick, that normally a LMS has the 'power' to set time limits and to act when time is over (messages), you could insert a learning interaction Timing or Hourglass, and have it execute a "Jump to" action after time expiration. If that jump to slide is the last slide and you turn off the playbar on entering that slide, the user will be 'trapped'. Sorry to sound bit rough.

3. Re: Can you set a project wide time limit?
jessedavis0919 Sep 23, 2014 12:32 PM (in response to Lilybiri)The hourglass might work, I'm exploring that option now. What I need is a triggering event to start the countdown.

Lilybiri Sep 23, 2014 12:39 PM (in response to jessedavis0919)It will start counting when it appears, put it where you want the countdown to start.

6. Re: Can you set a project wide time limit?
jessedavis0919 Sep 23, 2014 12:54 PM (in response to Lilybiri)Ok, so basically, make sure the hourglass stays for the entire project, and if I want to hide the actual hourglass I can just put a shape over it. Does it not work well with responsive projects? I think it's working right.

jessedavis0919 Sep 23, 2014 12:55 PM (in response to Lilybiri)What about the variable? When would I use that?

8. Re: Can you set a project wide time limit?
Lilybiri Sep 23, 2014 1:06 PM (in response to jessedavis0919)That variable has really no sense. First of all, you have to create it and it will just be toggled when time is over. I think it is just taken over from the former Timer widget (Timer widget... to stress your learners - Captivate blog) where it had sense, because it didn't have the same functionality of jumping to a slide when time was over. Beware: the timing is not very accurate, it will start with a delay of about 1 second if you put it on the first slide (display for rest of project), and when time is over the message (you cannot escape from it) will display for 2 seconds. Had planned to blog about Timing/Hourglass interactions, but have too many plans that I didn't realize.

9. Re: Can you set a project wide time limit?
jessedavis0919 Sep 23, 2014 1:14 PM (in response to Lilybiri)I think I got it, what I've realized is that this will not work if hourglass begins on a quiz slide. What I need is a project wide time limit to answer all the questions. I think this works, as long as it doesn't start on a question slide.
Thank you!
