1. Re: Illustrator Path to Layer Script Request
Monika Gause Sep 24, 2014 3:20 AM (in response to jaygoo)The layer panel's menu has two functions to get objects on their won layers.
After you applied these you need to move the layers up in hierachy.

2. Re: Illustrator Path to Layer Script Request
jaygoo Sep 24, 2014 3:55 AM (in response to Monika Gause)I understand how to move objects into separate layers but I need each sublayer to be its own layer if that makes sense.
I have attached screenshots and hope it provides more clarity.
Right now there are several <GROUP> objects in one layer. I know I can move each <GROUP> Object out into its own layer but I need to do more than that.
I need to move the PATHs under each <GROUP> object layer into its own layer and that will take a very long time to do manually.
Thanks for responding.

jaygoo Sep 26, 2014 12:38 AM (in response to Monika Gause)Monika, yeah so i know i can ungroup it but what do you mean "release to layers" ?
Do I need to create a new layer and manually move each path object into its own layer? That seems very cumbersome.

6. Re: Illustrator Path to Layer Script Request
jaygoo Sep 29, 2014 3:26 AM (in response to Monika Gause)Thank you for taking the time to respond again Monika,
I found what you are referring to but I still cant move the paths out of the original layer into its own separate layer.
I tried both "release to layers" (Sequence) and "release to layers" (Build)
Attached are the images.
What I am trying to do is move various paths to be in its own individual layer.
I know I can create a new layer and manually do it but I have A LOT to do.
Can anyone give any additional tips or suggestions? Greatly appreciated!

7. Re: Illustrator Path to Layer Script Request
Monika Gause Sep 29, 2014 4:47 AM (in response to jaygoo)You need to click (once) on the main layer in the layer panl. Then the commands are active.
When in doubt, also refer to the manual:

jaygoo Oct 1, 2014 1:05 AM (in response to Monika Gause)Thanks Monika, I just needed to understand whether or not Illustrator would create layers that would automatically stack above the main layer after using the ""release to layers" command.
And it doesn't. However, it does separate the paths into layers and then I need to drag them out afterwards which is pretty simple actually. And you have already mentioned this earlier.
You definitely pointed me in the right direction and I hope this helps someone in the future. Thanks for being patient with me Monika. Everything from your first post actually makes sense now.
