The .LRCAT is the extension of a Lightroom Catalog file. Did you create a new Lightroom Catalog with the name OLY6BMP as its name?
No, or at least if it was it was a long time ago, when I scan the drive for the catalog OLY6BMP i receive no results.
I'm guessing you made the mistake of opening a bitmap image file (or some non-catalog file) as a catalog, way back when, and now Lr is trying to open it again for some reason - I've seen this many times before, but sorry: can't remember the proper solution, probably somebody else will.
Lightroom has some protection now so this doesn't happen as much, but still.. - you need the solution.
Have you tried starting Lightroom with the control key down? (and keep it down until Lr offers the catalog-to-choose menu, if you should be so lucky..).
Quote "OYL6BMP.LRCAT" is this the exact name or is it OLY6.BMP.LRCAT
I have see posts with problems with xxxxx.jpg.lrcat where users have selected an image file to name a new catalog.
I believe the solution is to delete the file since it is not a valid name for a catalog. Can you post a screen capture of your user> My pictures > Lightroom sub-folder so we can see what it contains. Like the one I have posted.
Mine's empty - have I done something wrong?
Anyway, all this is begging the question: what should the "correct" catalog be named, and where stored, and what happens if you double-click on it to open..
I'll butt out now .
I use the Lightroom default locations for all Lightroom installations for files etc. I have my Image files, Backups etc to user designated locations. If you double click on a xxxx.lrcat file it should open Lightroom with that Catalog. If you try to open a xxxx.jpeg.lrcat file you will get an error / crash whatever since the file name is invalid.
I am trying to create a situation where this could happen.
So in Lightroom I click on File > new catalog> a window pops up and a prompt to select file name, click on the select arrow and a list of files appear. see screen capture, so I sellect one of the files on the list a .jpeg. Presto I now have a Catalog file with the .jpeg included. INVALID. Problems. When you next open Lightroom you are sent to the last Lightroom Catalog file which has an invalid name.
The only effective solution is to reset the preferences file....it has been corrupted by trying to create a catalog with the invalid jpeg.
Instructions for resetting the catalog are here: Resetting (or 'Trashing') the Lightroom Preferences file - Lightroom Forums
When you've done that, navigate to and double-click the correct catalog and LR should then start OK.
