Captivate 8 , HTML5 Publishing , capture user defined variable in LMS reports

would like to capture user variable in LMS and have it reported, I used g_objAPI.LMSSetValue() from javascript on slide,   but g_objAPI is undefined.   Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank
