FM12 was crashing when I tried to print a book to PDF, with "Internal Error 12004, 2175520, 21555514, 24685749". It would print to a printer.
I installed the update to 12.0.3.424 on my Windows 7 PC, and now it won't print to PDF or to a printer.
When I select File > Print Setup, nothing happens. File > Print Book and File > Print show the message "Can't find a compatible default printer. Try reconfiguring your printer setup in the control panel." I checked my printers in Control Panel, and the correct one is selected as the default.
I saved all files as FM11, and am getting the same result.
Any ideas how to fix this?

What is the actual default printer that you have set? The default printer for any FM session should be the AdobePDF printer instance. To set this automatically, you could use th Sundorne SetPrint utility (see: Sundorne Communications - SetPrint )
For creating PDFs, the SaveAsPDF route is now recommended.

Thanks for the quick reply, Arnis!
It's a commercial Ricoh printer on our network. This all worked yesterday, BTW.
Save As PDF won't meet all my needs as I need the Spot Color As Black/White for my printed docs. So I must be able to print using an Adobe PDF printer.

If you have the AdobePDF printer set as your default, can you print to a postscript file? Printing to the AdobePDF does the same thing, except for automatically calling Distiller when the temporary postscript file (.tps) has been created.

I installed SetPrint.dll for FM11 and 12, but still get the same problem.
My default printer in Control Panel is Adobe PDF Converter.
When I select File > Print, I get the same message, ""Can't find a compatible default printer..." So I can't print to a postscript file.
File > Print Setup does nothing, no dialog appears at all.
Save as PDF shows the message, "FrameMaker could not find Adobe PDF printer instance...".
I don't understand what happened. Everything worked fine yesterday. Maybe something on our network changed?

Can you change printers or use the Ricoh from any other application? If not, then it might be something specific to your system. AFAIK, the patch didn't mess with any of the printer routines (just some aspects of the postscript generation routines for PDF).

I rebooted, and can now print to the Ricoh. Can also get through the print steps in FM, but no PDF is generated. I can now print to postscript and open that in Acrobat, so that'll get me by.
I checked Word, and get the same results! So something must have changed on our network, though FM installed locally on my PC. I'll check with IT here and see if I can figure out what's happened.
At any rate, I can get my PDFs off to press now. Thanks so much for the help, Arnis!
