if I have an illustrator layer that is named icon and I convert it to outlines I get a layer that is named icon Outlines. Are you trying to remove the word Outlines or are you getting just a layer that says Outlines? Personally I would not remove the word Outlines from shape layer because this would differentiate it from the original and let me know at a glance what's going on with the layer and the project. This would be valuable information if I were to return to the project a year later for modifications.
Yeah I just want to get rid of the 'Outlines' text it creates. I get what you meand and I know it's there to differentiate it from the original, but to me the star icon and the blue color is more than enough to tell it's a shape layer, plus once I create the shape layers I immediately delete the original .ai layers.
Then the answer is no, there is no way to automate this. There is no batch rename for layers in AE, Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design or any other app I've ever used that has layers.
Thanks Rick! I though maybe the 'Outline' text was somewhere in a prefs file or wherever the code to convert vector layers to shapes is.
(I'll leave the question open for a bit and if nothing changes will mark you as correct answer).
