Is InDesign simply crashing now every time you try to launch it because the recovery data is bad and it's going into autorecovery mode? Clear out the InDesign Recovery folder to be sure, and launch the program before you try to open the file.
And we can't provide a lot of help for this without knowing the version of ID and OS...
Thanks. Using indesign 2014, latest version (just started using CC 2014?)
It tries to use autorecovery when I try to reopen the file, but then crashes again. Not sure if I'm answering the question.
Also, sorry about the newbie question, but how do you clear out the recovery folder? Where's that located?
Open Explorer and go to Tools > Folder Options > View tab and check the radio button to show hidden files and folders, then go to Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Indesign\Version 10.0\<language>\caches\ and empty the InDesign Recovery folder.
Start InDesign from the start menu, NOT by double clicking a file. If it opens, can you open the file in question without crashing? You will have lost any work since the last save in the previous session.
I just wanted to say that somehow our brilliant designer solved the problem by opening the file in a tiny window, 10x10 cm, then he exported to idml and then back into indd.
It totally saved the day. Interesting?
