    Global "Filters" bypass

    allinthemind2006

I find myself yet again in a predicament where the client has came back needing changes after Ive applied many processor heavy filters like colorista 2 and MB looks. I'm editing mostly 4k r3d's on a 2010 mac pro so you can imagine how bogged down my system is.. When are we going to get a global filter bypass for God's sakes? We need a one click option to disable all filters globally to make needed edit changes then turn the filters back on and render out. We had this in FCP 7 via the sequence settings menu, a little check box called "filters" you can click to turn them on and off globally right there. Very simple. I've been putting in feature requests since CS5 but this basic feature still has not been implemented.. Please does anyone have a decent work around?

Just posted this in another forum but in case anyone out there needs help I figured out a work around..

figured out a great way to do this with adjustment layers that takes under a minute to setup.. once your edit is somewhat locked down and youre ready to grade, on a single track, stretch one adjustment layer across the top of your edit. hit home to start at frame one and use the down arrow (shortcut for go to next/previous cut edit point of all clips) to move to the first cut of the sequence then hit "cmd k" (add edit) or whatever your personal shortcut is  to "add edit" to cut the adjustment layer, continue hitting down then command k until the adjustment layer has precisely the same cuts all the way across as your edit. this sounds like a pain but its not, very mindless, fast and easy.. once youre done, select any individual adjustment layer along with the clip beneath it and command L to link them..this will make the clip and its adjustment layer moveable as one entity. do all of your heavy effects and color grading on the adjustment layers above the clips. then a month later when the client comes back with changes, no sweat, just disable the adjustment layer track, make your edit changes then turn it back on and render out. this workflow requires you to be more organized on your sequence but will save your butt in the end

I can tell you another way to do it...and it is certainly my prefered workflow for Direct Link to SG

Duplicate the EDIT so you have  Grading Sequence.

I also  use this for FX heavy work and I use it in combination with Nested Grade / FX Sequences.

Lighter work I use Adjustment Layers Only.

Now ..I have the added function of Master Clips so I plan that workflow as well.
