2. Re: How to access hyperlinks in Adobe Reader X when the hyperlinks were created in Microsoft Visio then exported as a PDF?
Pat Willener Oct 3, 2014 7:09 PM (in response to Mr. Paco)I don't have Visio, so I can't really help you. But within Visio, did you create these hyperlinks using some 'Insert hyperlink' function, as it exists in other Office apps? Also, did you enter the protocol name (http://...) and not just the plain address like www.adobe.com?
If you did all that correctly, then it would appear to be a Microsoft problem.

3. Re: How to access hyperlinks in Adobe Reader X when the hyperlinks were created in Microsoft Visio then exported as a PDF?
CtDave Oct 4, 2014 6:20 AM (in response to Mr. Paco)Commonly there are three ways to create a PDF from MS Visio.
The first is a Microsoft process built in to the Office applications.
For issue resolution (if any) associated with this process you must investigate what is available over in Microsoft web space.
The second and third methods are predicated on having Acrobat installed.Method 2 makes use of the Adobe PDF virtual printer.
This is installed with an install of Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Pro (but not with Adobe Reader).
This virtual printer outputs to PDF rather than paper. As with output to paper the output to PDF provides no interactivity (e.g., links).
Method 3 makes use of PDFMaker.
Acrobat's PDFMaker is installed with an install of Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Pro (but not with Adobe Reader).PDFMaker can be configured to pass Office applications' hyperlinks through to the output PDF as PDF Link annotations.
IMPORTANT DETAILS !!
#1 - For Viso you must use Acrobat Pro.
#2 - The Acrobat / Viso versions must be compatible.
#3 - (as with all software) the application version(s) used must be compatible with the OS used.
Consequently, for any meaningful suggestions to be forthcoming you must identify the specific method used eh.

4. Re: How to access hyperlinks in Adobe Reader X when the hyperlinks were created in Microsoft Visio then exported as a PDF?
Mr. Paco Oct 7, 2014 5:51 AM (in response to Steve Cordero)Yes I saved the files out of Visio as a PDF ex. When I saved the files out the hyperlinks were established within Visio already but were not recognized within Adobe Reader.

Mr. Paco Oct 7, 2014 5:52 AM (in response to Pat Willener)Thank you for your response, I did not use the protocol name. I was using local documents to hyperlink not accessing any web pages. But once I saved the hyperlink to local documents the hyperlinks were not recognized within Adobe Reader.

6. Re: How to access hyperlinks in Adobe Reader X when the hyperlinks were created in Microsoft Visio then exported as a PDF?
Mr. Paco Oct 7, 2014 5:55 AM (in response to CtDave)Thank you for the detailed information as it was helpful, I did not double check the versions of Adobe although at this time I am using Adobe Acrobat. I will check the versions I am using to make sure that they are compatible with the link you provided. As for the Adobe PDF virtual printer, that is something I have to look into. It sounds like it prints the information to the file and can be opened in a PDF format and still contain all information added such as hyperlinks. This may be the solution I am looking for, again I will double check into that and Thank again!

7. Re: How to access hyperlinks in Adobe Reader X when the hyperlinks were created in Microsoft Visio then exported as a PDF?
Steve Cordero Oct 7, 2014 5:57 AM (in response to Mr. Paco)It may be Protected Mode blocking the links. Try turning OFF Protected Mode as a test.

Mr. Paco Oct 7, 2014 6:23 AM (in response to Steve Cordero)When I did my research online that was a suggested as a possible cause of issue, when I tried it in hopes that could be the issue I was let down due to the fact that it was not what was causing the hyperlinks to save out.

Then it is not a valid hyperlink. Web browsers assume the protocol name (because that's what they are dealing with), but other programs will not automatically recognize a hyperlink without a protocol name.
