    adobe ideas not syncing keeps trying to open illustrator CC 2014

    crafty48 Community Member

      Hi I have got adobe ideas and it has been working fine. I bought a pressure sensitive stylus so have been using it again but I cannot for the life of me sync. I have read and re read all the info on these forums and there is no answer, I have uninstalled, signed in signed out etc but nothing has worked. One this that is strange it Illustrator CC 2014 is trying to open, I never knew I had this as I am using Illustrator CC. When I try and sync the CC 2014 trys to open and then quits with an error message saying reopen, ignore or report. I have looked in my CC on my mac and I can see CC2014 and it says up to date. Very annoying and frustrating I pay for the service and I have just bought an expensive stylus and now I can't get any files to upload in CC. I have updated a plug in in my CC which was for touch apps. Please help

      Thanks Charlotte

          I don't know if this helps, but instead of trying to SYNC (which is useless), I have instead been saving images in Ideas, opening CC as an app on my iPad, uploading artwork as photos there and updating to the CC on computer. That's one way to get the files to the Cloud, but they seem to only go as JPGs. I haven't found a way to preserve layers. If you email files they can be sent as workable PDFs.

          If you find a way to preserve layers, please post it here. I can't get Ideas to communicate with Illustrator.

            Hi Lizard Thanks for the reply and I have tried that and it works, but the whole point is to be able to send idea files to illustrator! rubbish is all I can say! it has worked in the past so why not now. It restricts your creativity because you know all you can do is send a Jpeg and then use live trace so all you are going to do are outlines. I will ring them up and see what they say!! something things are made so simple they are very hard to work out what to do when they go wrong because there is very little information.

            Thanks

              Hi I just thought I would post on here what I have been doing since last night and all this morning!

              I have solved the problem and this is how I did it;

              I checked to see if Creative Cloud was working while syncing with Adobe Sketch app which I downloaded. It did work so I knew this was not the problem but ti took a bit of the for the file to appear in Creative Cloud folder.

              Then I thought there must be a problem with Illustrator because I had Illustrator CC (2014) showing in my CC and not my desk top. Every time I tried to send anything to Illustrator CC (2014) from Adobe ideas, it kept trying to open and then crash. I found a good solution by following the instructions of the following help website from Adobe CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed I was having this problem and found the uninstaller of illustrator CC (2014) on my mac and uninstalled it. I also got rid of a file they tell you to get rid of. I signed out of CC and then signed back in and I saw Illustrator CC (2104) was ready to install again. I did this and waited ages as you do and I have just gone into Adobe ideas, sent a file to Illustrator and to my surprised has opened Illustrator CC (2104) without crashing and there is my file. I hope this helps for anyone else having a problem, Thanks Charlotte

                Happy for you! Now where did you find the option to send to Illustrator? I don't have the problem with Illustrator crashing, they just don't see each other. I am still sending PDF's through email, that's a couple too many steps for me.

                  Hi one thing that is strange! it that when I send from the share option in ideas. My files open up on Illustrator CC 2014 which is on my Creative Cloud but I can't get it to install on my MAC where I have Illustrator CC. Maybe if you upgraded to CC 2014 it might work for you. It doesn't work on my CC just the CC 2014. I also have sync problems and have spoken to somebody at Adobe before but I feel another phone call coming on! Let me know how you get on.

                    Hi Charlotte!

                    I have AI CC 2014 installed, removed old versions of AI from my computer, updated everything and looked into fixing stuff that was "up to date" on the CC page, just like you pointed out. I still find no indication of a way to transfer .idea files. They don't show up as .idea files, they go to the Cloud as  .PNG files. (I'm writing this in the hopes that an Adobe agent is reading these posts.)

                    I'm not surprised you are still having sync problems, that seems to be consistent with Ideas. It comes and goes for mine, but still it only turns them into PNG files..... I wish there was better help for this.

                      The "Send to Illustrator" option is available from the share menu in the top right corner when you're in the sketch view. It will only appear if you are signed into Creative Cloud, however, and are a paid subscriber. If you don't see it, try going back to the organizer view and re-verifying that you are signed in. Then, go back and open the document you want to send and check the share menu again. If you are a Creative Cloud subscriber and are entitled to the Illustrator product, then you should see a "Send to Illustrator" button below the "Email" and "Share" buttons. This feature was introduced in Ideas 2.8.

                      Hope that helps,

                      Frank
