If you want to purchase an upgrade to Photoshop I don't know where to tell you to go. The only links I can find are to the creative cloud programs that are offered on a monthly subscription program. Your camera requires at least Camera Raw 6.7. You can solve the problem by joining the creative cloud and get Photoshop and Lightroom for the monthly fee of $9.99 US. The other alternative would be to use the DNG converter.
thanks for your reply. I dont understand why Adobe dont have an easy to buy/upgrade menu built in to the PS and PSE etc.
Anyway, that grumble aside, Ive tried installing the DNG converter but it says I need Windows 7 or later, and Im using Vista! so thats not an option.
I guess im going to have to just go online and buy the CS6 as got to be able to access my RAW files when I need to tweak the photos!
Photoshop cs5 should be able to open those files, you just need camera raw 6.7.
if you go to Help>About Plug-in and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it say?
If you need camera raw 6.7, try this updater:
If your still interested in photoshop cs6
Photoshop cc/cc 2014 which is part of the creative cloud doesn't work on windows vista
Photoshop cs6 is not officially supported on windows vista, but should work, you just wouldn't be able to update camera raw past version 8.3
Thanks R Kelly. Ive managed to be get an online chat with adobe and they've said the CS6 and CC only work on windows 7 or 8 and not vista so im stumped. Got to either buy new laptop (this one 6 years old but never had a problem with editing etc) or upgrade the OS which worries me!
Re the ACR, my CS5 version is 188.8.131.52
Just trying your link to update it. Just had an error to do with the Adobe Application Manager so now trying to sort that as well.
You might need to update the application manager
Then use Help>Updates from within photoshop cs5 or run the Application Manager and see if you can get the updates for photoshop cs5 to install.
Tried uploading new Adobe Application Manager to no avail. It still gives me 'update failed' when I try to update the ACR. Click on the 'customer support' link which doesnt actually take you to anywhere that can help! So infuriating! why isn't there an email address that I can ask for help through? going round in circles here.
When you installed the application manager, did it put a shortcut on your desktop?
If so, right click on that shortcut and select Run as Administrator
The application manager may need to update itself
Yes a shortcut on the desktop. Just running as administrator as you suggested.
It seems to have run ok and asked me to log in then said 'all good, no new updates'.
Ive just deleted the two adobe raw update files from the download and going to download again then see what happens...
Just tried updating the Camera Raw again and it downloads then when I try to Run the patch installer it comes up with the same error which is adobe updates could not be applied, Adobe Application May be damaged. click here to install new copy etc, but when I click the link it says page not found!
