I add captions to my photos using the IPTC Description field (*not* the IPTC Title field). When I upload them to Facebook using the inbuilt Publish service, the descriptions are all empty. It appears that LR is only capable of adding descriptions if the IPTC Title field contains the description. I don't want to put long descriptions into the Title field as that isn't the point of it. I have tried exporting to the HDD and then uploading to FB. This results in the caption displaying correctly except that it then has my copyright at the end. There is no way to remove the copyright as that is always exported.
Has anyone found a way to use the Description field in LR and have it successfully upload to FB and keep the description? If not how can I recommend this be added to LR as it seems to be an oversight.
There are a few issues going on, with annoying behavior from both LR and FB:
- The LR builtin FB publishing service only exports LR's Title field, not LR's Caption field. This is a silly limitation of LR (see Re: Posting CAPTION to Facebook).
- FB shows for its caption the concatenation of LR's Title, Caption, and Copyright fields. There is no way to change FB's behavior here -- see Re: Lightroom Caption Export.
- LR always exports the Copyright field. There is no way built in to LR to change that.
One workaround is to use this third-party FB plugin instead -- the author has an excellent reputation.
