Borrowed books crash ADE when loading on Mac air using OSX 10.9.5

ADE no longer works with Mac OSX 10.9.5 . After installing this Apple update , books borrowed in Epub format crash the ADE software when trying to load. Overdrive folks says this is happening more frequently and they can do nothing - talk to Adobe. Using borrowed books in Kindle format still work however - in Kindle app.
