    Possible GPU upgrade options

I currently am editing on a hackintosh system I built myself. My hardware consists of:

      Mobo: Asus P8H61-Lx PLUS

      CPU: Intel Xeon e3-1230v2

      GPU: Asus Radeon HD 7870

      RAM: 16gb 1333 DDR3 Memory

I recently upgraded my acquisition system from the Canon Rebel t3i to a Panasonic Lumix GH4. With the new option of having 4k video the possibilities are now endless but I have noticed a significant decrease in my systems performance in playing back video. This generally occurs when clips have even the simplest effects and sometimes unwatchable frame rates occur on just plain raw footage.

From my given hardware specs my thought for upgrade would be my GPU, I have looked around and the GTX 970 has caught my attention due to its low price but I haven't seen much information on how it performs in video editing.

If anybody could give any suggestions on if the 970 would be a logical upgrade from the 7870 but if not which piece of hardware would you recommend I upgrade to get as close to a seamless playback as possible (without breaking the bank of course)
