Mark Mapes Oct 6, 2014 6:42 PM (in response to ninose11)No, there's no way to control color of the focus highlighting and the text for certain controls. As you note, this is part of major changes to the user interface across many programs.

2. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
ninose11 Oct 6, 2014 6:46 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)OK then, but it would be great to have the option to select your own color. I noticed that a number of other people had problems with the blue color interface as well.
I find it harder to see text and digits with the blue. The yellow stood out more and was easier to read.
Where on Adobe's web site should I go to recommend this as a feature request?
Thanks again.

shooternz Oct 6, 2014 6:58 PM (in response to ninose11)Like you..I will get used to it.
Sticking with that cool Yellow would have been my preference too.
Wonder how many feature requests they got for a change on that.
Must say though ...someone at Adobe has an "interesting color palette" when it comes to choosing these things.
Wonder if it was the same dude that chose the purple for EOF indicator?
Thanx to those that gave us a choice to turn that one on / off BTW.

Nope. The end of sequence indicator was entirely the work of the PPro team, whereas the overhaul of the whole was a collaborative effort of the Experience Design crew across multiple programs. For what it's worth, several beta testers reported that they started off not so keen on the new look, but within a short time they came to like it.

6. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
Steven L. Gotz Oct 6, 2014 9:41 PM (in response to ninose11)I think I rather like it. It is a nice color blue, and I don't think the yellow had any particular advantage to it. Not that it really matters to be. Blue, green, yellow. As long as I can see it.

Jon-M-Spear Oct 6, 2014 11:38 PM (in response to HittingBrucePL)My point is not about aesthetics - whether I like or dislike it, will or will not get used to it.
I simply have extreme difficulty reading it. - across the whole CC 2014 refresh.

10. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
ninose11 Oct 7, 2014 5:30 AM (in response to Jon-M-Spear)My concern is the same as Jon's. It's not so much the aesthetics, but I do find it more difficult to see. I just think yellow was easier to see on a dark interface than dark blue.
For example in After Effects, when you select the tiny keyframes in the timeline, they're dark blue now. When they were yellow, they were easier to see.
But I find that only to be the case on my iMac i7. Whereas on my Macbook Pro Retina, the blue font is actually quite easy and pleasing. So perhaps switching to the blue interface had something to do with the fact that the 2014.1 update trumpeted a higher-res (Retina) interface. Aesthetically, perhaps Adobe's update was also geared towards the upcoming new iMac Retina line?

Jon-M-Spear Oct 7, 2014 5:51 AM (in response to ninose11)It's sure as hell illegible on a Windows system running an nVidia GTX680 and Dell Ultrasharp U2410 monitors.

12. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
Steven L. Gotz Oct 7, 2014 6:19 AM (in response to Jon-M-Spear)Jon,
I in no way want to be argumentative. So please do not take it that way. I am just curious.
I have a GTX670 and I am running Windows 7. I use a pair of Dell U2412M monitors.
You see what I see and find it hard to read, or you are seeing something else? Keep in mind that I calibrate my monitors for photography, not video. I only adjust for video when I am in SpeedGrade. It is a bit of a hassle to switch back and forth. So that might make a difference.

13. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
Jon-M-Spear Oct 7, 2014 6:33 AM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)I don't for one moment think you're being argumentative. You're fortunate that you're not experiencing legibility problems.
My monitors are calibrated for Stills also.
As I said earlier, I have difficulty across the whole October refresh - especially AE: a layer with multi-parameters and properties is an absolute nightmare for me. This is a relatively simple example...

15. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
hqhempen Oct 7, 2014 11:35 AM (in response to Jon-M-Spear)I think the readability is an issue because of the white attribute text, then looking over to the blue that fades into the dark gray. Yellow stood out just as much as white and worked on a gray background, was just easier to focus on. Just pan your eyes back and forth between "Position" and "960.0" attribute, you'll see folks.

16. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
shooternz Oct 7, 2014 1:33 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)Nope. The end of sequence indicator was entirely the work of the PPro team, whereas the overhaul of the whole was a collaborative effort of the Experience Design crew across multiple programs. For what it's worth, several beta testers reported that they started off not so keen on the new look, but within a short time they came to like it.
I might come to like it as well...but will probably just accept it as what it is. Weird fluoro blue text and lines that kind of destroys the clean sharp "professional software look" that one sees in Smoke and Resolve
I do feel sorry for those that have a legibilty issue though. It is readable on my system but it certainly does not jump out clearly or cleanly. Its kind of an amateur art direction color IMHO.
Still...I will remain curious what rationale there was to change it and what the beta testers came to like about something that was not ever a reported issue!
I have not checked yet but I wonder if while they were tweaking colors for the numerical parameters..they gave a thought to making them easier to "grab" and adjust. ( That has been an issue posted on occasion and maybe a subject for FRs)

18. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
ninose11 Oct 7, 2014 6:52 PM (in response to Jon-M-Spear)I must say that looking at those tiny darkish blue numbers against a dark background is quite taxing on the eyes, mine at least. I spend more time looking for those parameters since the color change.
I think this entire issue could best be resolved if Adobe added just one more customization option: the ability to customize the overall font color to any the user is comfortable with. For example in Adobe Audition, we can decide whatever color we want for the waveform (not just the background), yellow, green, white, blue, whatever. Why can't this be done when it comes to the overall interface theme??? Or how about just two choices: the former yellow or the current blue. Failing all else, I'll just have to get used to it.

19. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
ninose11 Oct 7, 2014 6:54 PM (in response to ninose11)Or since the overall interface is now dark, if the theme font has to be blue why not a brighter blue as in cyan? Or an option to increase the theme font brightness.

21. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
Chris2hoch2 Oct 7, 2014 11:38 PM (in response to ninose11)If i compare it to the very well balanced color scheme of my cinema 4d R16 Interface a few things come in mind.
1. The Contrast of the white typo is to harsh. Make it a touch of grey and it is ok.
2. Because of the complete lost of the tiny bevels (buttons/Menues) the only chance for the ux-designer is to raise contrast. It´s not well done. Way to high. For me flatdesign is not working with greyshades
3. The Flyoutmenues (Mainmenues, but even the Menues in the effects) pop up with a very bright grey (Windows standard). At c4d it is integrated in the color scheme. Looks sweet
4. Give us controll over the different elements of the interface. Some presets and custom controll.
For me the blue labels look fresh (maybe a litle brighter because of the greyshade contrast) but i canot enyoy the color because of the other interface mistakes.
For me it is a bit straining to work with ae these days :-)
PS: Dont like the arrows in the effects menues (2 different, too big)

22. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
Jon-M-Spear Oct 8, 2014 4:29 AM (in response to shooternz)Gamma is 2.2.
Although my monitors are calibrated with a Spyder 3, I have tweaked so that my Photoshop work closely matches output to an Epson R3000.
Even experimenting with the Ultrasharp presets doesn't improve legibility.
Someone made a good point that it's the harsh contrast between the light grey text of the properties and the blue of their attribute parameters that makes it very hard to read.
I also agree that the flat design UI is harder to navigate. I'm forever searching for sliders and grab bars.
I read somewhere that the Adobe designers want to give the user a clutter-free experience. Unfortunately they forgot the golden rule - usability MUST come first. This minimalist look doesn't achieve that.

dutchy_on_a_bike Oct 8, 2014 2:42 AM (in response to Mark Mapes)I'm glad I read this before hitting the update button. The blue is really hard for my eyes to distinguish from the grey background. It wasn't broken why mess with it. Is someone from Apple now working at Adobe? :-)
At least give people a choice, please.
CHEERS.

jonny9091 Oct 8, 2014 10:47 AM (in response to ninose11)I have to agree that the new color scheme is pretty much terrible for readability. I've been running it for 2 days, and my eyes just get blurred over trying to focus on it.

26. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
R. Neil Haugen Oct 8, 2014 12:12 PM (in response to jonny9091)I've got amazing color-senstivity, especially for a 60yr old male. Been tested numerous times, my ability to blast through the color-test charts always puzzles the eye docs. So ... yea, I CAN read this. I can work with it, though I do prefer the 'old' way, as it was clearer to scan quickly.
That's not the issue, is it? Whether or not someone like me with WAY above average eye sensitivity to all colors/quantities can use it? Unless of course, Adobe wants to tell the majority of males especially that we DON'T want your business.
As noted above, that deep "soft" blue is way too close to the background for good readability and quick "scanning", even for someone with eyes/visual circuits like mine.
For most males, with slightly less capability ... that dark blue is a nightmare. Separating that from the black/charcoal background IS going to create literal headaches. This isn't a "preferences" issue ... this is a phsyiological failure. THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET "USED" TO IT. It's a physical thing ... though I've found over the years that trying to point out the simple fact that known physiological human design makes something hard for certain people means absolutely nothing to most folks who don't have those issues. Which of course makes it quite clear that most people don't give a crap if they design something so that someone else simply will have painful attempts at using it ... if the designer likes it themselves. And they will roll eyes and otherwise act incredibly childish and stupid and uncaring about the physical problems they cause.
Most "sound engineers" think the way to solve hearing issues for those with most hearing disabilities is simply to make it all louder ... which is, if you know anything about this stuff, incredibly stupid and asinine. It just makes "difficult to discern" into "painful".
This color palette is exactly the equivalent. Sadly.

{KMS} Oct 8, 2014 3:14 PM (in response to jonny9091)Same here...the UI overhaul is flat terrible (not the flat design, but the color choices). My eyes are more strained looking at the UI. The contrast is just too high. It is nice to look at screenshots of the new UI, but using it for hours is terrible. Just a side not, why are the tabs so tall now. Seems like a waste of space. I don't need to click the tabs with my finger...

David Kuspa Oct 8, 2014 5:14 PM (in response to ninose11)We actually did use a brighter blue color during our beta cycle, but some of our beta testers felt it was too bright and harsh, so we dialed it back.
Have you tried adjusting your Appearance preference Brightness slider to a lighter gray background? This also brightens up the blue a bit.

Jim Simon Oct 8, 2014 5:29 PM (in response to dutchy_on_a_bike)Is someone from Apple now working at Adobe? :-)
I just had to chime in on this one. Given the addition of the much less useful Clip Mixer and the default and unnatural Rectified Audio waveforms, it seems a good bet that the PP lead is a new guy from Cupertino that Adobe unfortunately feels lucky about acquiring.
To my mind, there's been a lot of wasted resources on stupid **** that might make some few editors feel better because PP now looks like FCP, but doesn't really add anything truly useful.
While I generally prefer blue to yellow as a color, this new mix is definitely more difficult on the eyes. There's not enough contrast between the blue and the background.

31. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
ninose11 Oct 8, 2014 7:13 PM (in response to Jim Simon)Is it possible to create a poll in this forum? I know I can do it on dvxuser.com. This blue text seems to have been an issue with so many people, that I think it would be helpful if someone put together a poll, possibly along these lines:
• Do you favor or dislike the new blue-themed interface?
If you dislike it, and had the opportunity to choose your themed color, which would it be?
• The Adobe legacy Yellow color?
• White
• Red
• Green
• Cyan
• I would prefer the option to select my own color theme
(the color attracting the highest number of votes, could be the one Adobe gives us as an alternative for anyone having difficulty with darkish blue.
Ideally, what could be better than an option that just let's us select our own color, like we can in Adobe Audition for audio waveforms.

dutchy_on_a_bike Oct 8, 2014 7:22 PM (in response to David Kuspa)I'm sorry and don't mean to disrespect anyone at Adobe but this is just wrong. It reminds me of Steve Jobs "you're looking at it wrong" to paraphrase. I have seen the screen shots, watched the video and I will not be upgrading until this is fixed. The whole interface is just a mess, especially After Effects. Just admit this was a mistake and fix it! Please. Mark

34. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
R. Neil Haugen Oct 9, 2014 4:57 PM (in response to dutchy_on_a_bike)It just amazes me when simple RESEARCH would have told anyone that putting a DARK blue thin line or text on a charcoal to black background is difficult for many people ... especially men ... to even SEE. For an awful lot of men who aren't particularly "color blind" ... just well, normal ... deep blues tend to desaturate to ... deep grays.
Wow ... wasn't this a brilliant move?
Of the three primary colors, blue is by FAR the worst. The eyes/brain are more sensitive to both red & green.
It's like the many sound engineers I've worked with that absolutely believe the best way to get an auditorium's sound set up for better hearing by those with various hearing impairments is simply to increase the decibels of "volume". And roll their eyes at anything else. Um ... actually, for most folks with hearing difficulties simply raising the volume makes it muddier or more distorted ... and frequently more painful. In any form, WORSE. What the hearing - impaired need most is clarity of sound, with perhaps the 300-500hz area *slightly* lifted. And rather than a big speaker system for a room ala a rock band, small local speakers that are optimized for those frequencies, therefore avoiding reflecting off anything.
This ... *&%^ blue thing ... is just as ill-informed. And considering that what percentage of the user-base are male and WILL have a far worse, even painful time, in dealing with deep blue text? Huh. Not ... wise.

37. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
eikonoklastes Oct 9, 2014 11:45 PM (in response to ninose11)I can confirm that the blue text is significantly more readable on a high DPI display.
On a regular display, the dark background bleeds into the text making it much darker than it should be.
Also, like it's been suggested, increasing the UI brightness also brightens the blue text, which makes it a lot easier to read. I suggest everyone on regular screens do this.
This seems like a basic oversight by Adobe, considering most people are still on regular displays. A preference would be nice.

38. Re: Premiere Pro CC: can blue text interface be changed back to yellow?
AHAp Jonathan Oct 10, 2014 2:06 AM (in response to ninose11)Please listen to the users on this one Adobe. Readability isn't very good. Our production company would love to have the option to use the yellow color again. The answer that this is a "major change in the user interface across many programs", simply doesn't justify a decrease in usability. Blue text on a black background is in my taste cold, and a bit like "wargames" from 1983.
On another note, this is really a small part of the PP upgrade and I would like to thank you for all your other feature upgrades. We really appreciate your work!

Steven L. Gotz Oct 10, 2014 4:46 AM (in response to tombo)I still think that there is something odd going on. Maybe it is the way that screens are being captured, but once again, the blue on my screens look a lot sharper than the blue on the ones being posted.
