Was able to use Photo Effects last week, but not now

Last week I used Photo Effects with good results. I've really been enjoying PS so I went ahead and expand the RAM in my iMac 2013 to 32GB last week. The memory came from Apple about the same time I updated my OS. I'm not sure if either have anything to do with it, but I when I pull down the filter menu Filter Effects is greyed out. I checked my settings in Preferences. All the boxes are checked in Advanced under Performance. I did a little research online and the only suggestion I could find was an update for the driver. That seems unusual to me. Apple would include that in their updates wouldn't they?

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB is the card in my iMac.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem with Photo Effects, or can someone suggest something?

Do you mean under the Filter menu that some items are greyed out?

(provide a screenshot if the above is not it)

Which version of photoshop elements or photoshop are you using?

          (sounds like photoshop)

Is you image RGB Color and 8 Bits/Channel?

          (Image>Mode)

Unless you added the graphics card yourself, Apple usually provides video/graphics card updates through Software Update
