One the laptop, use File->Export as Catalog, checking "Include Negatives"
Move everything that has just been created to the other computer
On the other computer, use File->Import from another Catalog and point to the catalog created by the laptop
after doing the export step on my lap top, a problem appears:"Lightroom was able to export some of the photos of the new catalog, but encountered these problems: Photos could not be found (941) Items 1-941
basicly, all of my photos were not found...
One thing that you need to understand about a Lightroom Catalog is that it does not contain your photo files. Have you copied the actual original files you were working on with your laptop to your pc?
Have a look at the tutorial at the link below, it will provide a clear understanding of how the Lightroom Catalog functions.
Thanks a lot. But it doesn't work. I ex-& imported the catalog, I copied the raw and xmp files, everything just looks fine on my pc, but it simply doesn't work: the metadata changes don't appear on my pc, and it seems that for some reason my pc doesn't read the xmp file created on my lap top.
Did you check the Preferences settings for you Catalog on the PC?
It might be that the settings are set to use the Lightroom Database instead of saving as XMP
- Choose Edit > Catalog Settings (Windows) or Lightroom > Catalog Settings (Mac OS).
- Click the Metadata tab, and then do either of the following:
- To write adjustments and settings metadata to XMP, select Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
- To write adjustments and settings metadata only to the catalog, deselect Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
If you don’t write adjustments and settings metadata to XMP automatically, you can select a file and choose Metadata > Save Metadata To File.
Lets hope this helps to get the issue resolved.
