Quite unlike me to begin a document with web intent considering I'm a publisher of primarily print books, but I just finished a jacket design and am ready to send to press when I realized I set up the document with WEB intent instead of PRINT. I know that creates all RGB as opposed to CMYK, which my printer needs. Sooo...when I manually went and added a CMYK black swatch to all text and strokes they all got really oddly grayish. I feel like I should know what's wrong here, but I would much prefer to be able to unlock that drop-down menu option under File > Document Setup and change it with a click click click. But alas, I can't. Anyone out there have a (hopefully) quick remedy for me?? Please?!?
It sounds like your preferences are set to display all blacks accurately, which is good. RGB black is darker than 100K, so that's why the text seems to go gray.
I just tried Doing a Copy/Paste in Place from a Web intent page to the same size Print intent page and anything colored [Black] was redefined to 100% K only, while other colors remain in RGB and can easily be converted to CMYK during export or by redefining the swatches.
Thank you, Peter. I believe that did the trick. Pretty right quick, I might add. Much obliged.
