* Using system restore.
* Run a virus check.
* double-check the link where you downloaded from - you shouldn't have to reboot.
Thanks Rob. The problem is that I can't get in to the computer at all. Will try again tomorrow and hopefully be able to get as far as the system restore.
TThanks again Rob. Have got it back thank goodness!
Thanks again Rob, I am up and running once again!!!
Good to hear! - how did you do it, and what was the problem?
Are you running Lr5.6 now? if not, are you planning to try again?
I cant really tell you! I turned the computer on in the hope that I could get in and uninstall Lightroom 5.6 and I was bombarded with lines of numbers and reasons in technical jargon beyond me!!!! Pressed some buttons and found myself on the home screen. It would appear also, that Lightroom 5.6 is working. I am however backing up files to an external hard drive just in case!!
Good idea to backup, but it would be a bad idea to overwrite previous backup.
You may have a system problem (like failing disk drive) which has resulted in some corrupt files.
You can always try re-installing the OS - it won't affect existing data, and you won't have to re-install programs, but you will have to spend a while installing updates to make current again.
Normally, such is reserved as last resort, but if you are out of options, that is one..
Anyway, consider running hardware diagnostics too..
