Bob Levine Oct 13, 2014 12:35 PM (in response to Nick@Verisurf)It will require that you use up both activations. I’m not sure your reasoning for this but I’ve been running Windows 8 since its release.
Like you I installed it as a dual boot so I could go back to Windows 7 if I had to. The next time I do so will be the first.

Nick@Verisurf Oct 13, 2014 12:57 PM (in response to Bob Levine)Bob,
Thanks for the quick reply.I guess that's the "least worst" answer, since I can deactivate/activate as necessary to switch between the two operating systems platforms while keeping the 2nd copy on my laptop.
Why stick with Win 7? Legacy hardware, mostly, and because I generally subscribe to the every other release of Windows philosophy. In this case, however, I thought I'd try Windows 8 because I want to try Adobe CC and I was told it integrates and performs much better under Win 8. I'm really looking forward to Windows 9, 95, 98 err... Windows 10.

Bob Levine Oct 13, 2014 1:14 PM (in response to Nick@Verisurf)8.1 takes a bit of getting used to but you couldn’t pay me to go back to 7 at this point. Stop reading the MSFT bashing and give it try yourself.
Make sure you get all the updates installed. With 8.1 you’ll boot right into the desktop and you won’t have to see the tile interface unless you want to. And you may just find yourself there more than you think you will. Lots of good apps available.

Nick@Verisurf Oct 13, 2014 1:55 PM (in response to Bob Levine)Bob,
I think you're missing the point - I am going to "give it a try" - that bit about planning to put Win 8.1 on another partition should have been a dead giveaway.
Seriously, though; I live in the Puget Sound, I'm pleased that Microsoft contributes to the economy here and I've used their products since 1984. However, I've found that every time a new version of Windows comes out, customers to whom I've sold very expensive Windows-based measuring systems tend to get upset when things stop working right. I also have to purchase new hardware - particularly scanners - for personal use.
On a related note, I find it ironic - considering my stated desire to support legacy hardware - that (rumor has it) Microsoft is calling the next release "10" instead of "9' to avoid conflicts with... legacy software. I wonder if that's an urban legend.

Bob Levine Oct 13, 2014 3:05 PM (in response to Nick@Verisurf)It’s not about legacy hardware, it’s about legacy code (which may well be legend). They don’t want conflicts with Windows 95 or Windows 98 for versions.

Nick@Verisurf Oct 13, 2014 3:14 PM (in response to Bob Levine)Correct. As I wrote: ""10" instead of "9' to avoid conflicts with... legacy software." I read the same articles.
