1. Re: Working with text envelope
rcraighead Oct 13, 2014 6:25 PM (in response to A_Wolfe)Save your text as as Symbol before distorting with envelope. This is the only way to take full advantage of envelope distortion and still have editable text.

A_Wolfe Oct 14, 2014 8:36 AM (in response to rcraighead)Thank you I'll try it however it is not editing the text after the envelope which is the issue as I can edit the text fine it just seems to disregard spaces on the sides and pushes the text outside the envelope.
I did find that rasterizing it before envelope gives me the appearance I want and keeps the text within the envelope but then I loose the ability to edit.

rcraighead Oct 14, 2014 9:00 AM (in response to A_Wolfe)I think you'll find saving the editable text as a symbol first will eliminate the problem and keep your text editable. I find it even easier than directly distorting a text object because I can directly open the Symbol if I want to make a change, instead of toggling the envelope editability.

A_Wolfe Oct 14, 2014 5:28 PM (in response to rcraighead)rcraighead Thank you I tried it get the exact same result.
Maybe If I describe it a little more it will help I have an area text that is in 4 columns. When I apply the envelope to the text it pushes the left side column alll the way to the edge of the page and I loose some of the text in that column. So far I have tried:
1. resizing text and object to be envelope result no effect get same result
2. Making symbol: No effect same result
3. Putting tabs and or white space in area text spacing is ignored.
4. Adding a object with no fill or stroke to the sides of the area type before enveloping.. no effect.
5. Rasterizing before enveloping SO far this delivers the best visual effect text stays closest to original while being distorted to fit page.

5. Re: Working with text envelope
tromboniator Oct 15, 2014 3:19 AM (in response to A_Wolfe)Working in Ai CS5.1 If you use the full-page shape as the envelope the test will go to the edge of the page; that is expected. I cannot replicate its pushing the text off the page - outside the envelope?
Here is what I've done to get what I think you're after. If it's not clear, please let me know.
