1. Re: Markers made in Prelude not appearing in Premiere
michaelgoshey Oct 15, 2014 1:47 PM (in response to jonsnyder)Hi -
Where are you looking for the markers in Premiere Pro? If you are using Premiere Pro CC 2014 or later they should appear in the following locations:
- When you add the clip to a sequence you should see markers right there on the track items
- When you open the clip in the Source Monitor you should also see the markers in there
- Premiere Pro also has a Markers Panel that will show the markers for the open clip.
Please do note that SUBCLIP markers in Prelude are handled differently in Premiere Pro. When you have subclip markers in prelude they show up as actual subclip items in the Premiere Pro project panel and there will not be markers for those.
Hope this helps -
Michael

jonsnyder Oct 15, 2014 1:51 PM (in response to michaelgoshey)Thanks for replying. I'm aware of where the markers *should* appear - the issue seems to be that nothing I did in Prelude (adding markers) is transferring to the media when viewed in Premiere.

michaelgoshey Oct 15, 2014 1:55 PM (in response to jonsnyder)Can you send me the XMP file for one of the clips you added markers to? I can take a look and see what's in there.
You can create this XMP file easily by first opening a clip in Prelude's project panel. With the clip selected go to the FILE menu and choose "Save Metadata As...". Save the XMP file to disk and then post it - or you can send it directly to me at mgoshey@adobe.com
Thanks!

michaelgoshey Oct 15, 2014 2:15 PM (in response to jonsnyder)Hi Jon -
Yep! I see the speech markers. I forgot to mention the second special case of marker handling that differs between Prelude and Premiere Pro - and that would be with Speech markers.
Premiere Pro has a powerful workflow in their Metadata Panel. There is a Speech Analysis section in that panel that will display your speech markers. The Speech Transcription marker workflow as originally designed for Prelude and Premiere Pro was based on running the automated Speech-To-Text feature. This generates individual markers for each spoken word. When this is done you will be able to see each word highlight in the Metadata Panel as the video gets to that part of the clip. You can also set IN and OUT points and edit clips based on the spoken words. Very cool.
In your case it looks like you used the Speech Markers as placeholders for entire phrases. While this will still show up in Premiere pro's Metadata Panel the words will not be so much in sync (because each word is not assigned a timecode, only the beginning of the phrase has a timecode).
I would suggest using COMMENT markers to hold your manually transcribed phrases spoken by your actors. These will show up in Premiere Pro as standard markers in all the places I mention above.
Let me know how you make out on these.
Regards,
Michael

jonsnyder Oct 15, 2014 2:20 PM (in response to michaelgoshey)Thanks Michael. It seems like there might be a great automated way to transcribe that I'm not utilizing. Is there a how-to video where I can check this out?

michaelgoshey Oct 15, 2014 2:27 PM (in response to jonsnyder)Hi -
I don't know of an online tutorial for the Speech-To-Text workflow, but it's simple enough I can outline here.
1. Select a clip in Prelude's project Panel
2. Right Click and choose "Analyze Content..."
3. In the "Analyze Content" dialog be sure "Speech" is checked
4. Choose the language and quality settings desired
5. For best results, adding a Reference Script is suggested. This can be a simple TEXT file of all the words spoken. The tech will use these words to help resolve the spoken words from the clip. With such a TEXT file set as the reference script your quality/accuracy will improve dramatically.
6. If you want the speakers to be identified (as SPEAKER 1, SPEAKER 2, etc.) check the final option
This will send your clip through Adobe Media Encoder in the background to perform the analysis. Once done you will see the markers appear in Prelude.
Cheers -
Michael

jonsnyder Oct 15, 2014 2:37 PM (in response to michaelgoshey)Here's a video about it - seems to be a little out of date but it's something Premiere Pro's Speech to Text Helps You Save Time | Creating Time | Adobe TV
