Need help! Dynamically generated buttons' scripting

    reinhat
I have a script that uses an external XML file to generate and define numbered buttons from a library template based on the number of gallery items also defined in the XML.

"galleryItemCount" defines the number of gallery items and also the number of related buttons.
Frame 1 of the generated button clip "newBut" is the Up state.
Frame 2 of the generated button clip "newBut" is the Over state.
Frame 3 of the generated button clip "newBut" is the Down state.
Frame 4 of the generated button clip "newBut" is the Selected state.

Frame number 4 of the generated button movieclip is defined as the button display when the button is selected. I want the pressed and selected button clip to stay on frame 4 until any other button is selected. However when I test and roll out of the currently selected button then it displays frame one of the buttonclip disregarding that it was selected before and no new selections has been made yet.
Is there a way to keep the currently selected "newBut" buttonclip on frame 4 until any other "newBut" instances are selected?
Thank you for help in advance, Attila
