I am trying to data merge a CSV into an InDesign template (CS6) and within the CSV file is a registered trademark. Whenever it merges the trademark symbol gets converted into a funky symbol we don't want. However, we are having problems figuring out a work around. We cannot do a find/replace since we have an automator that converts the document to a PDF when the merge is being done. We seem to think that a GREP should work however we are unable to insert a special symbol this way.
This seems like something others should have run into in the past. Does anyone have any solutions?
UTF-16 Little Endian is the format you need to be saving the merge file in. Some applications will offer to save UTF-16 files in LE (Little Endian), BE (Big Endian), with and without BOMs. Sometimes the text editor will simply lump UTF-16 L No BOM as just UTF-16. Just depends on the text editor...sometimes their help files explain the choices clearly, sometimes not.
My text editor...
Inside ID using Preview of the merge (btw, don't preview with a real merge document. It can become corrupted).
We tried it out and were able to get it to work!
Thanks so much!!
