Mylenium Oct 16, 2014 7:42 PM (in response to Sanctum1972)Yo won't know until you try. It is unlikely that you will get any comprehensive/ exhaustive answers on this, as the number of users actually still using CS5 and being on a current OSX is probably low, anyway. Most of them will work on older OSX versions on older Macs and Adobe simply doesn't support any untested configurations for legacy versions. This is all you wil lever hear from them:

iamlina Oct 17, 2014 6:45 AM (in response to Sanctum1972)Hey,
I've just download and played around with InDesign and it is working fine. I have opened Ai and Ps too and they seem fine also.
Any other specific questions just let me know.

Are you saying that you have CS5 and downloaded OS X Yosemite and it all works okay?

iamlina Oct 17, 2014 7:00 AM (in response to Sanctum1972)Hi Adam,
Yes, all downloaded. Mainly use Id, Ai and Ps and all open and seem to be working. Haven't used extensively but can't seem to see any problems as of yet. Downloaded the free month of CC just incase but don't think I'll need it. Obviously it could be different for you, but on mine it's working fine at the moment.
Added a little screenshot as proof

ahartlaubart Oct 18, 2014 1:42 PM (in response to iamlina)Hi Lina,
What's the specs of your mac? Year / RAM/ etc. I have a 2008 model macbook pro that's running 10.6.8 on 2GB of RAM, and I'm honestly terrified to update to Yosemite. It looks awesome, but I feel like it will just perform much slower on my mac, and I'm worried of compatibility issues with software. But you run CS5 and it works okay? I'm on CS5.5 on this machine. I'd love to have the new OSX, but I'm thinking I might just wait til I get a new mac, which probably won't be til next year. :\
Have you had any issues with your Mac running Yosemite?
Thanks!

sagalbot Oct 20, 2014 4:17 PM (in response to Sanctum1972)Running Yosemite on a mid-2011 iMac. None of CS5 worked for me after the upgrade to Yosemite from Mavericks.
Apparently I need the Java SE 6 runtime, which is old. The current JRE version is 8. I found a copy here:
CS5 seems to be working smooth after the JRE 6 install.

napafrank Oct 20, 2014 5:55 PM (in response to Sanctum1972)I have an issue when selecting fonts from the dropdown menu. It doesn't show the example of the font, just the name. When scrolling it is helpful to see the font at it is designed to look, and not just the name. I have so many fontsI remember very few of the names of the fonts.

10. Re: OS X Yosemite and CS5
iamlina Oct 21, 2014 1:27 AM (in response to ahartlaubart)Mine is a late 2013 Macbook Pro so it is quite new.
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
8GB RAM
I've had no problems with adobe at all - all fonts are showing up too. In terms of the Java download; that did require a download but it has the link straight away when you open it. I wouldn't call that a problem.
The only snag I've encountered so far is with folders in Finder. They tend to 'disappear' a quick restart of Finder sorted this out but it has happened a few times.

Sanctum1972 Oct 21, 2014 5:48 AM (in response to iamlina)Lina,
That's very helpful to know about the java download. I had a feeling something like this would be required because I'm running on a 2011 iMac with the i3 3gz Core chip with 4GB of RAM. It sounds like CS5 would work okay but with some slight glitches.

OneTree72 Oct 21, 2014 7:51 AM (in response to Sanctum1972)Hi All,
So far my experience with CS5 & Yosemite update had seemed okay (but would only work after the aforementioned Java 6 update). Photoshop & InDesign both worked fine & font preview still functions there. Just not in Illustrator. Illustrator no longer displays font previews OR font names, except when scrolled over. The exception seems to be foreign fonts. Screen shot below. Anyone else have this issue or find a resolution? I can browse the fonts in Font Book, but that's not an ideal solution!

photocurio Oct 22, 2014 6:45 AM (in response to sagalbot)Thanks sagalbot. That got CS5 working for me again. The odd thing was that after upgrading to Yosemite I had to first install Java Development Kit 8 in order to use my code editor (Coda 2). And then I found that CS5 needs JRE6. I am amazed that everything now works..

16. Re: OS X Yosemite and CS5
toddfooshee Oct 22, 2014 9:22 AM (in response to Sanctum1972)Hey all,
I had upgraded to Yosemite (hoping it would fix my problems with Photoshop in Mavericks). Upgraded, and didn't seem to have any issues. But as I've tried creating new documents, my font library isn't being recognized by the Adobe applications (namely, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere Pro). I've tried re-copying fonts into my font library, re-installing them, but to no avail. I'm still without the fonts I'm needing for projects I'm currently working on.
I reset the library to system fonts but have all my others backed up in case I can figure something out. Because of this, apple software seems to recognize all the system fonts just fine. But now, my font list inside of the Adobe CS is incredibly limited, and isn't even displaying the full list of system fonts.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this?

HighCo Oct 23, 2014 1:59 AM (in response to Sanctum1972)Yes, I do - and I am wondering why Photoshop CS5 doesn't start anymore whilst InDesign does this without problems.
I downloaded the Java-thingie as it was required by InDesign before starting it first time under Yosemite - but Photoshop? Dead. Anyone any clue?
Thank you very much in advance for your assistance - especially if written in a language that can be understood by a complete computer amateur (me).

Spaceben3 Oct 23, 2014 6:41 PM (in response to HighCo)I also have this exact same problem.
Updated to Yosemite, and now PS CS5 is no longer working.
It's the only thing from CS5 I use regularly so it's quite the pain.

karinanuc Oct 23, 2014 11:44 PM (in response to RDM001)Open the Mac OS X System Preferences and head to ‘Accessibility.’ Once you are in there, select ‘Display’ from the left-hand list and then check the checkbox that says “Reduce transparency.”

HighCo Oct 24, 2014 2:06 AM (in response to HelmutWeiss)I found it (the check box, last in die row of checkboxes (Transparenz reduzieren) - but it has no effect on the PS dilemma (I think this answer was meant to fix a font issue. The PS CS5 problem has still not been answered, be it solved.)

Sanctum1972 Oct 28, 2014 6:58 AM (in response to HighCo)HighCo,
So it works that easily by reinstalling PS CS5? So basically uninstall just PS in CS5 and then re-install it for it to work in Yosemite? I hope that resolves the problem!

crosswave1 Oct 30, 2014 5:29 PM (in response to Sanctum1972)crosswve1 here ..
as soon as I downloaded Yosemite OS/X 10.10 my Photoshop crapped out .. A screen window opened asking I download a Java SE patch . Still no go. Apple has bingeing down hill since Cook took over. They also place tech support users on hold for 30 min to 60 min. Apple has been Obama-ized. Total crap out !

33. Re: OS X Yosemite and CS5
iamlina Oct 31, 2014 12:10 AM (in response to crosswave1)This happens everytime a new operating system comes out. We are all running old software that is not supported by ADOBE either. Let's not make this post about personal views.
I found that going through the link on the java screen sorted that out. As above...this needs to be download to work and has happened with everyone. It will take you to a webpage where you have to download From there.

34. Re: OS X Yosemite and CS5
ccmpj Oct 31, 2014 3:20 PM (in response to iamlina)I did a clean install of Yosemite. Therefore I installed Fireworks and Photoshop (both CS5), fresh. I've not had any issues so far (I had also installed Java as I use other applications that depend on Java).
The only thing I have found is that the software update doesn't work. The updates download, but they fail to install, stating there was a problem downloading (even though the download progress bar goes to 100%).

napafrank Oct 31, 2014 5:58 PM (in response to OneTree72)My same issue too. Is there a fix yet? I believe I did the new Java update, but my font display is still blank. Can anyone please provide a fix? Thank guys!!!

36. Re: OS X Yosemite and CS5
OneTree72 Oct 31, 2014 7:01 PM (in response to napafrank)Not sure I can help with the Photoshop issues since the Java install seemed to work for me. However, the blank font display in Illustrator font preview can be fixed by going to system preferences, Accessibility & clicking the "Reduce Transparency" check box. This made my Illustrator font previews work again - apparently the new "transparency" stuff in Yosemite, while looking nifty, makes those preview fonts invisible too! Here's a screen shot of what it should look like:
Hope that fixes the font bug at least for you!

37. Re: OS X Yosemite and CS5
napafrank Oct 31, 2014 9:39 PM (in response to OneTree72)Wow! That seems to do the trick! I can see the fonts as before. Thank you for this! However, seems like a strange trade-off if one likes the new transparency feature...
-
38. Re: OS X Yosemite and CS5
OneTree72 Nov 1, 2014 7:45 AM (in response to napafrank)Glad that worked for you. Agree it's a strange trade off - I did like the transparency, but like seeing font previews more! Perhaps the transparency issue is something newer versions of Illustrator has internal settings for & doesn't need the workaround? I'm just relieved that all my CS5 suite seems to be running okay in Yosemite!

13Dennis Nov 16, 2014 6:16 PM (in response to napafrank)napafrank-
did you ever solve the problem of fonts not displaying in the FontBook drop down menu?
I just upgraded to 10.10 Yosemite and this works in InDesign but not Adobe Illustrator. I need to see the fonts in the drop down.
Thanks
