    Setting up a CanoScan 8800F with PSE13.

    Gennie2281

I have just upgraded to PSE13 and have a CanoScan 8800Fscanner that uses a TWAIN driver.  I am using a 32bit system.  I don't have the twain option in Edit-Preference for a scanner and when I use the File-Import command I only have the option of WIA support.  If I click on that command I get a message indicating that no WIA scanner is attached.

I just did some fiddling while writing this and I can now get a wizard that acquires an image but it is in BMP format which is really unacceptable for most PSE work.  Can anyone suggest how to get a jpg or tif image?  There doesn't appear to be an option to change the format used to acquire the image.

          Hi,

Can you please explain whether you are trying to import in Elements Organizer or in Editor?

          Thanks

          Andaleeb

I use the Editor to import scanned images.  Experience in previous versions taught me the Organiser likes to do it's own thing and that doesn't necessarily match what I want to do.

              Hi ,

              1)First Move your TWAIN plugin from "C:\Program Files \Adobe\Photoshop Elements 13\Optional Plug-Ins\Import-Export"     to   "C:\Program Files \Adobe\Photoshop Elements 13\Plug-Ins"

2)Now Install Its driver from canon website.

If it runs only on WIA then itself please update once your driver.

No - COPY the plug-in. If you move it, it can prevent future updates from installing. Full details at TWAIN not installed | Photoshop Elements 9 and later.

                Cheers,

Thank you, gentlemen, for your replies.  Unfortunately both appear to rely on previous versions of PSE being available.  Unfortunately I deleted all previous versions of PSE when I installed v13.  I have Googled but don't seem able to find a site where I can download the plug-in.  I have contacted Canon Australia and they can't help.  They suggested it may have come from Adobe?  If not, can you suggest where I can get the plug-in or how I can get the WIA working properly with both the scanner and PSE13.  As it is the WIA option is completely unacceptable.TIA

I have Windows on automatic updates and the WIA driver had not been updating.  I have now updated the driver and it is somewhat improved but automatically saves the image as a bitmap eg IMG123.bmp.  I would still prefer to use the twain drivers if I can find them as I have far more control over choices etc.  I don't have disks for previous versions of PSE.  I downloaded the program for quite a few versions.

The 32-bit version of PSE13 includes the TWAIN drivers as described in the post I linked to. Look again.

I did look, and I've updated drivers from Canon.  This is what my screen shows.

                        Optional Plugin Folder.JPG

on the file menu, it shows Import > WIA ... and this is the dialog box that is displayed.  BTW Windows optional drivers have been updated.

                        WIA Dialog Box.JPG

I don't know if this is the way it's supposed to look as I've rarely used it.

I tried using My Preferences to set the optional plug in but that didn't work plus I then lost access to my Topaz Labs plugins and it wouldn't let me set two optional plug in drives. Oh, BTW I am definitely a 32 bit user &  have both Adobe & Windows on automatic updates.

It is over 13 years since I worked on our network helpdesk and I can appreciate how frustrating this is for you and I do appreciate your help.  I have tried just about everything I can find on the Adobe website and I just cannot understand why the Elements is not locating the driver.  I haven't had this problem before and I've been using Elements from Version 2.  Admittedly I didn't scan much then but I do a lot of scanning now which is why I'm so frustrated and am frustrating you.

Okay, so you found the plug-in and the Import-Export folder. Now you need to copy it to the regular plugins folder in PSE (at the same level as the Optional Plugins folder) and restart your computer.

Thank you everyone for your help, it finally works, funnily enough with both the WIA driver and the TWAIN driver.  The WIA driver no longer automatically saves the image with an IMG###.bmp name but displays the image as untitled and allows me to make the decision about name & format.  Contrary to Barbara's instruction I only needed to relaunch PSE13. Woo Hoo.
