Setting a corner option (on rectangle) to greater than 0.693pt?

Hello all,

This is probably an amateur question.

I am trying to make a long ellipse-like shape that isn't a sharp (on the ends) as the ellipse shape. Using the rectangle shape actually gets me closer to the desired shape. However, I need a radius greater than 0.693pt... it seems odd that I can increase the value beyond this but the actual roundness isn't affected beyond this value.

I could solve the problem by creating more anchor points and manually creating the shape that I require but it will be difficult to achieve perfect symmetry and seems like a lot of effort for a shape that should be easy to draw (as it was in the Snagit example attached).

Corner affects never use a radius larger than half the smallest dimension of the rectangle, regardless of what you set.

Okay, thanks for your response Peter.

But how do I make the oval shape, as I did with the Snagit example, in InDesign. This should be a very simple task... I'm expecting to be embarrassed by how easy it is.

In the old days, I remember a "Rounded rectangle tool" that easily created the oval shape...

Use the CornerEffects' script. Just play with it a bit until you get what you need.

I don't actually have any specific dimensions in mind, I just want to create a shape similar to what I have shown in the attached image (the lower one that was created in Snagit). There must be a way to create such a shape without manipulating Anchor points in either a Ellipse or Rectangle shape.

Seriously... Adobe, I have to dig down into the bowels of InDesign in order to create such a simple and common shape?

This cornereffects script is weird! How did you get that shape? Anything beyond: Rounded/Offset 1 PT/Pattern all points results in a crazy and wild pattern.

At least 1 PT is an improvement so thank you again.

UPDATE: Zooming in... even 1 PT isn't quite right. Perhaps there is a secret to using this script?

Right. I had to "play with it" a bit to get that shape. Enlarge the shape horizontally and go from there.
