I did a project a while back where a Word document was actually stored within the Projector and then saved it to the users hard drive if they wanted to.
I use the vList Xtra along with BuddyAPI to do this. I built a little tool which would suck up the Word document bits into an internal cast member. I then used BuddyAPI to help locate and identify the folder/path to save the file defined by the user. vList then saved out the binary data stored in that cast member. It worked very well.
FYI, Director has no way (out of the box) to read or save binary data.
Hope that helps.
Screensaver makers will usually create an installation EXE for PC and an Application for Mac.
You just need to create a button in your projector that uses the Lingo 'open' command to run the installaion program. Alternatively you could use Buddy API (2 functions free) or FileXtra (free) to run the program
That sounds easy enough.
