1. Re: Trouble MIF washing FM 12
Arnis Gubins Oct 24, 2014 11:02 AM (in response to Seanb_us)The ctrl+click Open, did open the MIF file as pure text. However, when you saved it, it went back out as pure text also (as that's all there was when you opened it that way).
To examine MIFs, it's better to use Graham Wideman's MIFbrowse utility. See: FrameMaker MIFBrowse (it still works fine with the latest FM12 version).

2. Re: Trouble MIF washing FM 12
Seanb_us Oct 24, 2014 11:10 AM (in response to Arnis Gubins)So, how do I open and view the MIF in FM12 and save it back for use as an FM binary?

3. Re: Trouble MIF washing FM 12
Arnis Gubins Oct 24, 2014 11:17 AM (in response to Seanb_us)Just open the MIF file (without using the ctrl+click). It will look like the regular FM version, as FM will interpret the MIF contents for display. Then save as .fm.
If you want to examine the MIF contents, use the MIFbrowse utility.

4. Re: Trouble MIF washing FM 12
Seanb_us Oct 24, 2014 12:45 PM (in response to Arnis Gubins)Hi,
That's not happening.
1) Open MIFtest.fm.
2) Save as MIFtest.mif (MIF 12.0).
3) Close all open files.
4) File > Open. Highlight Miftest.mif, and then Ctrl+click Open.
5) Select the default, Treat each line as a paragraph, and ANSI Windows, and click Read.
6) The MIF opens in FrameMaker as readable text.
7) Make no changes.
8) Save the file as either .MIF or FM.
9) Close all open files.
Subsequently, I can only get a text-view of MIF by opening the files saved, I cannot recover a FrameMaker binary.
Thoughts?

5. Re: Trouble MIF washing FM 12
Arnis Gubins Oct 24, 2014 12:54 PM (in response to Seanb_us)Step 4.
The CTRL+click option forces FM to read the file as pure text. Don't do that if you want to save it back as binary.
Simply double-click (or drag onto FM) the MIFtest.mif file from Explorer or use File > Open and just click on the filename.
