Where is the catalog greyed out? Exactly what are you looking at, how did you get there, in order to see this greyed out catalog? Better yet, show us a screen capture
I am not seeing a "greyed out" catalog in this screen capture. None of those appear greyed out to me.
but this catalog is missing 60% of my images. so i was guessing that perhaps all my 2300 images were located somewhere else?
Your photos are not in your catalog. Lightroom does not store photos in the catalog. If those other 2300 photos were imported into Lightroom (were they?), you might want to try File->Open Recent and see if the photos have been imported into one of the catalogs listed there.
Perhaps i am describing the wrong problem. Bottom line - i am missing 1500 of 2300 images (in the catalog that i CAN see [above].
the 800 images that are in this catalog i can see have not been edited (which i do recall editing 2300 images)
i did look into recent catalogs open (no luck)
perhaps the entire catalog i was working on last night is missing ? or in the trash?
(i suspect this catalog of 800 that i am viewing is the catalog i started 5 days ago - then i started / named a new catalog once i had all 2300 images from the shoot). this 'second' catalog has a similar name.
SUMMARY: perhaps the catalog (screen shot above) that has 800 unedited images is NOT the catalog of 2300 edited images that i was working on last night....before the OS X computer update.
REQUEST: how can i find the catalog i was working on last night? (it's not in the LR recent catalog list)
i'm sure this sounds confusing....but i am a little confused myself....not knowing if the catalog above is the one i need (with missing images) or if the catalog above is a different cat - just with a similar name.
Have your operating system search for all files on all disks, which end with .LRCAT.
Open each one found in Lightroom.
Checking the trash can't hurt either
OTHER CLUES to the mystery:
1. Usually i store the LR catalog in a separate folder (than the original raw files).
I just opened the original raw file folder and saw xmp files next to each .nef file.
these are the LR sidecars, correct? why are they in this folder and not in the separate LR folder that i created? (see screen shot above)
2. why does the screen shot above have four LR items? (with two greyed out - unable to access). All my other shoots show only two LR 'items' in the folder (one 'data', one 'catalog')
3. per the screen shot above - the end of the extension (for the two greyed out items) shows 'LOCKED' at the end of the extension.
SUMMARY: perhaps the catalog i need is 'locked out' or hidden somewhere?
I said: Have your operating system search for all files on all disks, which end with .LRCAT.
Did you try that?
i will try that....
but i just started a new LR catalog .....and loaded my raw files from the ORIGINALS folder (that also somehow had the xmp files in this folder.
this new catalog has all the images...with the corrections.
this hopefully will work for me .....but i still don't know why my working catalog from last night can't be found. i'm just glad i have all the edited images i need.
thx for your help....but the mystery still remains.
(what is that .LOCK extension? that must have something to do with it?)
yes, checked the trash also....nothing....
i assume i didn't delete the catalog....(since the .xmp LR corrections somehow ended up in my originals folder.....(where i only keep my raw files - never any LR items
With Lightroom closed, delete the .lock file, then try opening the catalog in that folder by double-clicking on it
