The solutions is either of the following:
- Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
- Copy the photos back into the exact same folder and folder location that they were in before
I don't know what you actually did "when I pasted it back" ... but the bigger issue is that you shouldn't be working with these files in your operating system, period. Once you import them into Lightroom, you don't manage these files in your operating system.
Right-click on the folder in the library module and choose the option to update the folder location. Then point Lightroom to where the folder is located now.
Thanks, your second bullet point may be the solution. My 2014 file structure got a little chaotic.
Just to clarify: I wasn't attempting to manage the folder in the OS, just copy it to a thumb drive. It's worked before when I wasn't being careless about the operation.

The folder was in the right place but not visible in the library. I decided to try one more time to import. This time I found the folder and was able to import. All is well. Thanks DJ and Jim.
