How do I REALLY quit Lightroom?

    stgabor Level 1

I can't eject my external HD drive once I used Lightroom. Even when I exit properly, my PC sais: close all programs that might be using it. What do I do wrong?

          Hi stgabor,

Quitting LR in Windows should be as simple as closing the window. If you look in the task manager is Lightroom still running?

Could it be antivirus software that might be hanging onto the EHDD?

Also, Which version of Lightroom and Windows?

          Regards

          Pete

            Hi, Pete,

            Thanks for writing me.

Apparently I only have a problem ejecting my EHDD when I use Lightroom.

In the task manager there is no sign of LR still running.

I have Lightroom 5.6 and Windows 7 Professional.

I really am worried that sooner or later my 1TB EHDD will crash.

            Thanks for any help!

            Kind regards,

            Gabor

I have LR 5.6 running on Windows 7 X64 and I have no problem with editing an image on an external USB 2 hard drive and then ejecting it immediately after quitting LR. However, the one sure way, although not very convenient, to dismount the drive is to reboot your computer. If you don't want to wait for Windows to load again, in the second between shut-down and restart you can safely pull the plug on the external.

Even if it is still running? (I can feel with my hand that the disc is still spinning for a while).

                Thanks anyway.

I occasionally have this problem with my WD Passport external USB drive not ejecting ejecting because it’s busy, long after the LR process has ended.  One time I went into the Disk area of the Resource Monitor that you can start from the Performance tab of Task Manager, and saw things happening with the log file of the file-system on that drive, so something was doing something with data on the drive, still, long after LR has exited.  I have no idea what, or whether it was even related to LR, but I eventually rebooted as was suggested elsewhere in this thread.   My drive has a blinking light during activity so I made sure that was steady for a while.

                    Thanks a lot!

Actually, I have exactly the same EHDD.
