I have the same problem, except I only have 2 GB of RAM.
I tried creating a new catalog, but got the same error.
Thanks in advance,
You probably need to delete the preferences file. When you start Lightroom again, it will generate a new one.
I ended up contacting support. In my case, it was Sharing & Permissions had defaulted to something not quite correct. To check if that is the problem for you (and assuming you have a Mac), go to Applications, right click on Adove Lightroom and select Get Info. Sharing & Permissions should read:
system Read & Write
wheel Read Only
everyone Read Only
If does not have this, click on the lock on the bottom right hand of the info box to unlock it. You will need your system password to continue. Once you have entered your password, change the Privileges to the ones I have here.
Funny thing is my Library file is under the HD/Users/[your username]/Shared/Library/Preferences/ and not as HD/Users/[your username]/Library/Preferences/
I don't know why that is...
I have the correct permissions... But thanks for the quick answer! Will have to contact support I guess.
You have not looked in the correct place for the preferences. Check Victoria's article again.
I looked again, but do not see:
Like I mentioned, I have:
But if I try to create a folder called Library in the path mentioned in Victoria's article, it tells me that it already exists...
Also, I've searched for the file com.adobe.Lightroom3.plist and cannot find it. I did find the file com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist, removed it but still get the same error...
Thanks for the support,
